Wow. Words fail me.
I love science and work in technology, but my original training was in social studies and history.
So I do respect Ken Burns (of The Civil War, Baseball, Prohibition, The War (WWII) fame) a lot. And AFAICR he has come in favor of democrats before but has only criticized Republicans like McCain in mild terms. This year the gloves are off.

Trump lies that Omar Mateen was born in Afghanistan, when actually he was born in the United States.
it looks like it was an ad lib, and not in the text of the speech.
Sounds to me like he misread the teleprompter, but once it was out of his mouth he automatically believed it.
But he refuses to ever say the killer’s name. Smart! Tough!
Well all the prognosticators get to see how smart they are. Lots of people said some kind of big attack would help Trump. Now we get to see.
Well, to be honest, how many times do we see people born in this country referred to as being Vietnamese or Korean or Asian or Swedish or whatever? A specific example would be Steve Jobs, who was often and proudly referred to as being Syrian even though he was born here. One reference speaks to heritage, the other to citizenship. Thus it isn’t necessarily wrong for Trump to refer to the shooter as being “an Afghan” even though he was born in the U.S.

He has a pattern of calling people by their ethnic heritage and implying that it’s somehow negative or less than American – he did it with the judge, and now he did it with the shooter. The fact that the shooter was, in fact, evil, does not mitigate this pattern.

He stated he was born in Afghanistan and then moved here.

He should resign for refusing to say the word “Mateen”.

Not to mention Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren.

He stated he was born in Afghanistan and then moved here.
In that case I stand corrected. I hadn’t heard what Trump actually said and was responding to what Politico said in Happy Lendervedder’s post.

He has a pattern of calling people by their ethnic heritage and implying that it’s somehow negative or less than American – he did it with the judge, and now he did it with the shooter.
No, just like with Trump’s alleged racist and misogynist comments that really weren’t, this is a deliberate distortion of what he was talking about. Saying that a judge might be biased because he is of a heritage that the defendant is widely accused of insulting is not remotely the same thing as saying that the judge’s heritage is negative or less than American.

Not to mention Elizabeth “Pocahontas” Warren.
Even people of a liberal lean on this very board have acknowledged that Trump’s calling Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas” was mockery of her claim to American Indian heritage and not mockery of American Indians themselves.
Trump has added The Washington Post to his blacklist:
Donald Trump said Monday that he is “revoking” the Washington Post’s press access at his campaign events, calling the newspaper “phony and dishonest.”

You mean aside from calling the judge ‘Mexican?’ And then alleging bias SOLELY because of his race?
That’s the very definition of racist. Nice try, though.
It would be like referring to Trump as a German- nobody fucking does that. But if it comforts disengenuous conservatives, I’ll pretend I don’t hear the whistle. (Not really, but I’ll pretend to pretend, you know, to shelter their feelings.)
