Ok, spoilers, and I’m not going to put it in that spoiler thingy…
I had the AC on, couldn’t hear the dialogue:
Did the upper mobsters who were killed and chopped up by Lefty’s crew really take down the club? What was that I heard about someone not paying off the cops?
In the basement there, Lefty was told to whack that friendly monster guy because the boss figured he turn coated or something? (In addition, as Lefty said, that he should’ve been whacked for the coke deal, which I guess just got found out, right?) Irony, etc., depending on 1st question.
The friendly mobster, Kirby, saw Donnie at the motel on his way from the coke deal. That’s never picked up again (cutting room floor?). No problem, can be explained that he didn’t want to reveal he was near that motel, or whatever, but still. It was a big close scare in the movie.
Donnie assumed it was the fault of the his fellow undercover for not paying off the local cops. In reality though the “upper mobsters” were the ones who called up Santo Trafficante and told him to squash the business using his connections with the police who were on his payroll. Sonny Red didn’t want Sonny Black to get powerful.
Sonny Black believed Nicky (the friendly mobster) was the rat based on him withholding information about the coke deal. If he was withholding profits that he was supposed to kick up to the organization, then Sonny Black assumed it was just as likely that he was working with the police.
It is because later on Sonny Black asks Nicky if anything panned out for him in Florida. Nicky says no, but in reality he did a big coke deal, or was continuing to deal coke. Nicky and Donnie never bring up the motel because they’re more worried about being exposed rather than even wondering why the other guy was there.
