Don't dream it, Be it...

I always find it amazing how negative people can be when you tell them your dreams and goals.
There’s always some reason why you can’t or shouldn’t do it.

In the spirit of saying “Screw you, I’m gonna do it anyway”,

tell me what goals you have acheived that people said you couldn’t.

Mine was hiking the appalachian trail.
standard responses when I told people I was going to do it were:
“You mean you’re gonna sleep outside for 6 mos?”
“What if you get hurt?”
“What about bears?”
“No way you’re gonna walk 2000 miles”
“you’re crazy”
etc…

note: this isn’t merely a self gratifying post, I truly am interested in hearing about people acheiving their dreams and goals.
I think that we limit ourselves, it’s amazing what you can accomplish when you forget about your limitations.

When I went to college I studied CompSci. At least that is what they called it at the time (80 earlies). I was good at it and figured it would make me some good money, so I did it. But what I always wanted to do was make models and blow them up.

So, fast forward to two years ago when my brother moved his model train shop onto a miniature movie effects guy’s property. My bro said they needed help so I ditched my network support business and moved down to SouCal. I am now making models and BLOWING THEM UP! I get paid next to nothing but have the job I have always wanted. Ahhhh. Pyro…

I’m actually about to start doing something I’ve wanted to do for a while. As of tomorrow, my car becomes my home, and my dog and I are going to travel the US visiting Family and friends. It’s pretty scarry to take a step like that (not having a bona fide home), but I can’t wait to see and share with people whom I haven’t contacted for years.

Can I go with you, dentarthurdent? That sounds terrific.

ACK! where were you two years ago? sorry, I did it in '99

But if you feel like going for a hike…I’m always open

Hey Frank, who’s pool is this? My My My My My My My My My My My

They are just jealous they don’t get to do something cool like that. Have a blast on your trip, I hope the weather and the scenery is beautiful.
(Though I do admit to thinking, sleeping outdoors for 6 months, ICK!!! But I am a big wuss )

Someone told me, when I was 18, that I’d never find a boyfriend with whom I could loosen up and be silly, “because guys are insecure”. I’ve been with such a person for 8 years, and married to him for two of those years.

I always wanted to do “something cool in some exotic place”–too many National Geographic specials, I guess. Anyway, I’m doing it.

Four years ago I started a non-profit to help the poor of Nepal. We’ve got a medical clinic and next month we’ll be opening the doors to the first public library/community center in the district. Our site is about 7,000 ft. up in the foothills of the Himalayas in far western Nepal. It’s absolutely beautiful. I’ve managed to go back to Nepal for several months each year since starting this work, which has been awesome. I hope to someday be able to live there for several years straight.

Definately, go for your dreams. I had no idea how I was going to pull this off when the idea first came to me, and if I look back I’m still not sure how I made it happen. Hard work, I suppose, but I’ve enjoyed it so much it that I have no complaints about the long hours, no pay, government buerocracy, blah blah blah. It’s been totally worth it.
