ShowBiz, since you originated the thread, you want to take another crack at this?
We can incorporate this into the FAQ – or at least link to it – we’re open to different ways of handling this information.
Please don’t put any more test posts in this thread.
And Sue? If you can’t say anything worthwhile, don’t say anything at all, okay? Your schtick is boring and irritating. It’s very similar to people with overlong signature lines, a waste of bandwidth and inconsiderate as well.

You’ve been wanting to close this thread for some time, for your own inscrutable reasons, so I suppose you will, only God knows why.
I presume it’s because it’s the only one with staying power in this forum?
Or because it’s one of the handful that wasn’t a test?
And the bandwidth crack above means you have no idea what bandwidth is and what it’s components are. Spreading out a message vertically doesn’t create bandwidth. Have someone who cares explain it to you.
I have no time for people who’s main focus is attacking newbies for “creating bandwidth”. Go pay a programmer to do it. Should cost under $1,000.
Trying to get yourself banned, Show_Biz? Blatant attacks on the administration is a pretty damned good way to accomplish that. Obviously, you haven’t read the “Don’t be a jerk rule.”
I don’t understand why you’re so upset and hostile.
Since you originated this thread – and it is helpful to other people – I thought you would want to perpetuate it. Or at least have a hand in it.
As far as the other nasty things you had to say, you’re greatly mistaken and I’m quite perplexed as to why you’re being so ugly.

Here ALT-0160 is used to prevent the [black] URL in the example from turning into a link.

Sometimes you want to show how vB control codes (for bolding, etc) are to be typed, and need to disable executing the codes.
A lot of people find inadvertantly that putting control codes into the Post Subject line, as I have above prevents them from being converted. That’s of limited use, so is almost always a mistake.
The easy way is to use blanks to split up the code, and it won’t get converted.

It’s a lot easier to hit the quote button and then edit out the part you don’t want to quote.
That way, you keep the original poster’s name in italics, and won’t forget part of the coding.
Like I can start doing italics with [ i ] but then forget myself and close it off with [ /b ], making a mess. Fortunately, I always preview.
BTW, you don’t have to use curley brackets to show the coding. Just put a space inside the and it won’t be recognized as a code. The space nearly disappears when it’s displayed
But if you don’t even want the spaces, break up the code by
putting [i**][/i] **into it, as this poster did.

To update your signature, click the “Profile” icon at the top of the page.
Then put stuff into the signature slot.
You can use ** [b**] to bold and [sub][sub][/sub] to shrink, and :**) for :), etc. **
Testing colored text.
It seems to change color, blue to red to purple, when you touch it. These are your browser’s “hover” color and “referenced link” colors.
It also depends on how large the font is
Any text can be made blue with a null link
Any text can be made bold blue
[sub]Any text can be made small blue[/sub]
[sub]Any text can be made small blue[/sub]

[sub]Any text can be made small blue[/sub]
[sub]Any text can be made small blue[/sub]
Like this one, that breaks up.

The cure seems to be to hide the length by using the NAMED link format:

**You can’t manipulate the font face or font size directly. (I’m still waiting for [font face=“symbol”], btw). There is a way to get a smaller type. Use the sub and sup tags (superscript and subscript) together.[sub**][sup**]This is the way[/sup**][/sub**]
[sub][sup]This is the way[/sup][/sub]. It seems to work better if you view it with Netscape Navigator than with MS Internet Explorer.
I wonder if [sup][sub]this will work[/sup][/sub]

It was woking for me (that is, your quote showed both sizes at the same baseline) on Internet Explorer. Then I changed versions,
and now the small print is below the line.

**Quite simple, Soul of the Machine. Click on you Profile button to display your profile. Then look at the end of the URL at the top of your browser window. It should say userid=8633 (your number). Antthracite most likely just changed this number to 100, then 200, etc. to pull up the profiles of those users. **
To find a username by number, put the number into this link:

To find a username by name, put the number into this link:

Note, if the name contains blanks, your browser may insert %20 in their stead.

If it doesn’t, you can add “+” signs

I’ve seen a lot of threads lately that were already answered in this thread, so I’m boosting it for another day’s run.
Moving into the 21st Century… maybe.

**There are several ways to show coding examples with the vBcode included in the post. One method (mentioned above) is to include a “blank” tag inside the “real” tag. The method I prefer is to use [ and ] for the beginning and ending square brackets, like so:bold example
will become
bold example **
This thread was becoming unwieldy with all the test posts so I included the information herein (or most of the information) in the technical issues FAQ.
