We had the kitchen rewired a couple of years ago when we replaced the fuse box with a circuit breaker panel. (The same guy came out yesterday.) The GFI is on a four-receptacle outlet. The refrigerator is also on that circuit. Nothing else. The outlet is nowhere near the sink, and there was nothing cooking on the stove. It shouldn’t have tripped.
That’s the thing about electricity - it’s sneaksy! It’s all smoke and mirrors, and when the smoke escapes, that means it’s broken!
It’s true!
The GFCI protects any circuits that are behind it in line.
I am not good at explaining things.
So, I open the door to go outside. My cat, who was sitting in my chair, turned to look at me. Then he took one look at Ripple and was off running across the neighbor’s porch and around the corner, Ripple hot on his heels. I’m thinking WTF is up with the cat, when I see Adam sitting in the neighbor’s swing looking at me with a look at those crazy fools look on his face.
So Adam’s look-a-like is back. I think if (s)he would ever sit still long enough I’d be able to tell them apart. I know the look-a-like is smaller.
Juliet I was wondering if little girl shoes still had buckles.
Cool site Ruble.
Nowadays, the fridge is supposed to be on it’s own circuit.
At the condo, the kitchen ceiling light, microwave and the little bedroom are on one circuit.
In 1969, my parents bought a 1928 home. Job one was rewire with a 200 amp service–the knob and tube service it came with was 15 amp–for the whole house! Romex is you friend!
I’ll throw in my 2¢ about stupidly wired houses…
My house has the washer and dryer (basement) on the same circuit as all of the kitchen (including the fridge), except the stove, and about half of the main floor outlets. The other half of the main floor is the same circuit as all of the upstairs outlets plus the bathroom fan… but not the upstairs lights. The upstairs lights are all wired through each other, so if I try to install a new light, I have to guess which wires go from that room’s switch to that light, and which wires go to the next room’s light. Our family room shares a circuit with the outdoor outlets. The basement outlets and lights that aren’t the washer and dryer are their own circuit… the only circuit that makes sense in our house.
On top of that, our wiring is old. If I want to make coffee, toast and microwave some bacon, I trip the circuit if the fridge kicks on to cool. For Christmas dinner, we had a Nesco with the ham on the piano bench in the living room because we’d blow a fuse if it was in the kitchen with the crock pot plugged in.
When we build the extension we want to build, we’re going to go ahead and get the whole house rewired at that time. This is just dumb.
I’m just leaving Japan now so I was able to pick it up yesterday.
The thing which would have been the biggest pain would have been losing
My alien registration card, since the airlines wouldn’t let me fly without on ongoing ticket.
After we get back and settle down, I’ve get to talk to my wife about how she schedules vacations.
I just need to take things slower.
Home. Supper will be poke chops and whatever I decide to go with them.
**FCD **has permits in hand for his new shop - now we just need to get the excavator in here. That could happen as early as next week. Oh, yeah, and we need the appraisal to come it at the right amount, which shouldn’t be a problem.
It’s over 70° for the moment, so the house is open for a bit. It’s nice.
My Hummer friend is still here. She comes and feeds whenever I go out on the patio. She seems to want me to know she’s still around.
Also, it snowed here too, About 2". It’s mostly gone now though, which is good, ‘cause I have to blow out the sewer lines again.
See, our house was built before indoor plumbing, and electricity, BTW, and those things were added later, without permits I’d say, which is to say; not at all well. The drain line for the master bath runs from the master about 50’ to the east, where it ‘T’s into the drain line from the back of the house and from there runs about 70’ to the sewer line at the street. Every so often things get stuck at that ‘T’. I’ve got a big sweeping ‘Y’ in the garage to replace the ‘T’ with the next time I have to dig every thing up, but for now, I have a device that I stick down the cleanouts (That I installed a couple of years ago) on the end of a hose and when I turn on the water it swells up to block the pipe and then shoots a pulsating high pressure jet of water out the end, blowing everything in front of it on down the line. Works a treat. Considering that it’s currently 35F outside, I’m blowing out the lines as quickly as I can and nothing else.
That’s what happened to our last couch, except that I tripped over a dog and fell onto the couch.
We’re still using the mower we bought from Monkey Wards almost 30 years ago. I’ve replaced about half of it over the years, but the motor still runs, so I keep using it.
I used to buy New Balance all the time, when they were made in the USA. When they moved production to Viet Nam, or wherever, they went to hell. Now i don’t have a preferred brand.
I understand about the GFCI business. When I decided to install lights and an outside outlet on our new deck I wired in a GFCI, and then we decided we wanted another outlet on the bedroom wall inside. Instead of trying to tap into another ancient circuit I added it to the new circuit I ran to the GFCI. Now, when Wifey’s clock goes off, we know to go outside and press the reset button. Trust me, compared to the other weirdness in the wiring and plumbing around here, that won’t be much of a surprise for the next owners of this hovel. :dubious:
Howdy Y’all! I laundered and put stuff where it stays until it gets used and dirty again. Also had the agenda meetin’ this afternoon. I can understand the purpose for the meetin’ as it sets up what is to be brought before the Vestry. The agenda is sent out beforehand and others can request items be added as well, which hardly ever happens. Anything to keep a Vestry meetin’ under two hours is good. Anyone who proposes to go off on a tangent at Vestry can be brought back to the agenda so the meetin’ moves forward. Trust me, we do have a couple folks who love them a good tangent.
TB glad the backpack was found but sucks about the money.
A GCFI outlet in the kitchen has a tendency to trip about once a week. The one in the mateer bathroom, as far as I can recall, has never tripped. I know that when the one in the kitchen trips the garage door opener won’t work.
Would this be a bad time to mention the 72F that my car read when I got off irk?
Glad you got your backpack back TB.
Alien, the house that I grew up in was built in 1860, first wired and plumbed in the early part of the 20th century and was rewired upon purchase by my parents. When the folks put in central heat and rewired the garage for industrial woodworking, they went ahead and updated the wiring in the house.
My apartment building was built in the late fifties or early sixties. One thing that’s nice is that the breaker box is neatly labeled and evidently, the wiring was updated a few years back, because it has more outlets than most residences of the original.
Irked, came home, walked the dog and mopped. Now for studio time.
Rain is coming. Right now it’s still off to the west, but the tunder-boomers are crossing the Ali-bama/Mississippi line so they’ll be here soon. Still 65F and supposed to be 70F again tomorrow, so I’ll manage it.
Mower is back in the garage where it’ll sit for another couple of months until mowing season starts. Nappage completed this afternoon, so probably will stay up late this evening.
Can’t really comment on any wiring/electrical problems because I haven’t had any recently.
Bumba, I’ve had this one about 15 years, if I can get it to 30 years (and still be the one mowing, I’ll be over 80 by then) that would be great.
All y’all take care now.
yall can do me a favor and keep your white excrement that’s trying to invade my little speck of desert… its trying to do that hail and rain at the same time ………
might have Chinese food since its Chinese new year , and might order from the only decent place left through door dash ……… we shall see
well ordered from the newer place since the place I wanted to order from dosent offer the combo meals or chow mein through door dash… and its all stopped for now ……
My mother got the rugelach today and is very happy with it.
We are planning to go to the armpit Saturday, depending I guess. It is supposed to be cold again by then, but N.O.S. so snow shouldn’t be a problem.
That could change though, one never knows.
Ours is not as stupid as when we moved in. At that point the whole house was on one glass fuse and one lead meltdown bar, most of the outlets were cloth-covered extension cords set into the floor, and the second floor had light fixtures wired and soldered directly onto live gas lights.
Now the dumbest thing we have is an outlet you can’t plug an electric clock into; it will run slow. I had it checked and it tests out fine but ------- no clocks in that outlet.
The OW had that and flavored rice so I may not being doing chili as planned. I love (seriously love) most of the leftovers she leaves me.
I still wear some NBs but I have gotten a lot more willing to go to Reebok for my work/court shoes. NB also lost me when I tried to get two pairs at the same time; the first pair I put on felt like gloves and I wanted another ------ the next three pairs out of the stockroom didn’t fit. :smack: The one pair, marked 11.5 and everything, were so badly fit that even the clerk was WTF. Reeboks I can risk mail-ordering -------- NBs must be in front of me and on my feet at least for a try.
Worked. Canes beat the Pens.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out and cloudy (well, dark) with a predicted high of 79 and mostly cloudy for the day. Tomorrow the high will be 81 and on Firday 66. Weather be schizo! Once again I shall betake myself over to the church house this mornin’ to learn how to clean the ice machine and to haul the biiiiiiiiiiiiig trash cans (two this week) to the road for pickup tomorrow. I shall also lay in provisions today. Sup shall be hamburger steaks ‘n onion gravy, smashed N.O.T., green beans and bizkits. I got me a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for hamburger steak.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas and alack, I must purtify and don goin’ about the public attire. Such a bother!
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
I mostly slept thru the night, so I’m mostly awake and functional this morning - huzzah!
Did I mention that next week I go back to my 3-day schedule? At least I hope to - gotta check with the boss, but Josh said we’re over the hump and he doesn’t need my concentrated efforts at the moment. So Yay! I’ll work thru Firday, then revert.
Trying a new breakfast sammich from WaWa - instead of sausage and egg on a croissant, this is between waffles. It’s tasty, but probably not the healthiest of breakfasts…
Happy Wednesday!!
Ugh. My cold virus peaked today, well Tuesday. I believe I should start feeling better as of humpday. I’m still awake so it still feels like Tuesday.
I will survive.
