Damn 50 post cutoffs. I blame lesbians.
Well, she also called them “cocksuckers” which is homophobic itself. btw fuck the op’s downstairs neighbors.
My thought exactly. I own a NYC apartment and I am president of the board as well, so I get all the complaints.
My upstairs neighbor told me two or three times that her new next door neighbors were haing violent domestic disputes…I am also the person that interviews and approves new owners and tenants…she was coming down on me for approving them.
I told her that they seemed very nice and mature during the interview and she should call the police if it happened again, I felt that any fight would’ve been an anomaly and the young couple would be embarrassed enough to never do it again.
A month our so later I asked her for an update and she said…“Oh, it wasn’t them, the autistic kid across the hall was screaming and I misheard where it came from.”
I was furious, I thought since she had slandered this nice young man and his pregnant wife to not only me but to other tenants and she never felt that she should go back and correct herself.
On another occasion, I was in my apartment and I heard voices outside of my next door neighbor’s door ( the doorways are so close the doormats overlap and a knock at their door sounds often like it’s coming from mine). The voices were discussing whether they should break down the door.
I opened my door and found two policeman, they told me they were responding to a domestic violence complaint. They asked me a few questions and were much relieved when I told them that the apartment was occupied by a mother and son ( not a couple ) and that I had been home all day and hadn’t heard a peep.
Again, I suspect the autistic kid upstairs.
Lansharks, however.
Leave it to a poster named santorum to be frothing at the, uh, mouth about this.
Absolutely.
If the police ignore the call or don’t take it seriously and it transpires that somebody was beaten or killed, there will be huge repercussions for them.
I think my teapot is gay.
I thought it was a fight between two maids
They all are.
Truely the scourge of modern civilization.
We had to call the police a couple weeks ago. A person got out of their van which then rolled across the street and hit our fence. The person retrieved their van, went into the bodega on the other side of the street and then left the scene. Luckily, the manager at the store witnessed everything and got a license plate number too. Wen the police came, my partner and I explained that we both lived at the house but weren’t home. The officer’s default was “brothers, right?” Uh, no. We didn’t default to ZOMGHOMOPHOBICFREDPHELPSBIGOT!11!!!2!@ We just thought it was a quick and basic assumption with no malice intended whatsoever.
S+M is one thing but a scourging is a bit much for my tastes. Wait, what are we talking about again?
You realize your story has nothing in common with the OP’s other than the existence of police, right? It’s possible Imago is flying off the handle, but I’m not really seeing it, and based on the circumstances I’d forgive an overreaction.
The existence of the police + the presumption of sexuality. The point made was that a presumption of lesbianism does not a bigot make.
Not on its own, no. In some contexts, it does.
And the OP rushed to that judgment.
Lesbians.
What with their wanton habits of cutting in lines, talking loud on their cell phones, filling their soda cups all the way to the top even though people are standing in line behind them*, using too much sunscreen, not invading Canada and many other societal sins.
I’m just going to say. You heard it here first. Lesbians will be the fall of man.

Well, there’s Rachel Maddow, for one.
