Regarding the ratings: It did much better among younger people. Which, based on similar ratings, means that a lot more people watched it than Nielsen is measuring. And even more people have/will watch it in other than real-time when it aired.
The ratings world just hasn’t caught up with how people watch TV today.
OTOH, compared to similar SyFy shows, it tanked. Later DVD/online sales will tell.
I so wish I could have seen this in a drive in movie theater with friends, instead on on TV at home. It was the perfect summer crap B movie!
And when shotgun girl finally told her story of how she got her scars, I thought “Wow, she has the PERFECT back story for American Idol or The Voice or America’s Got Talent!”
So many magic moments moments in this film…and of course, the capper was the chainsaw and not one, but two emerging! Visine Eye Drops should have been a sponsor - with millions rolling their eyeballs that often during the film, they will all need relief!
Whose the bigger idiot? The Sharknado people or the guys who spent almost a quarter of a billion dollars to get Jack Sparrow and a Winklevoss to reinvent a cowboy film no one gave a shit about?
Sharknado is currently available On Demand for those of us unfortunate enough to be stuck with Comcast, also known as xfinity. It’s free and even has its own listing outside of the syfy network. Enjoy!
Younger demos just don’t show up well in Nielsen ratings. They are watching the show, just not being counted. (As well as watching shows via other sources.)
So, the greater percentage of young viewers a show has, the even greater number of such viewers are not counted.
The Office (US) was famous in this regard. It’s initial ratings were horrible but the NBC execs noticed that a lot more young people were showing an interest in the show online than would be expected based on ratings. The DVD sales were also surprising. So they kept it on the air.
Similarly, Community would have been canceled based on it’s Nielsen ratings alone. But NBC knows that it actually has a bigger audience. So it’s on its way to 6 seasons and a movie.
What I really want is the theatrical poster. You know that someone has to print off at least a few hundred of those. I just hope I catch wind of them before their gone.
SyFy confirms Sharknado sequel and want viewers to name it. The twitter information is at the link (since I don’t speak twitter and I’m not sure how to format it)
