- Yes.
- Yes.
- Correct.
- That would be James Madison, who was living in the White House during the war of 1812 when a fire was set to the White House. He was having dinner when he had to be evacuated to the chicken coop.
That puts me at +7.
That puts me at +7.
Excellent! Now I’m 12. I can see you need something tougher.
Difficulty: 10

Okay, I’m going to give you some names of (more or less) famous people. Briefly describe what each is most known for:
Leon Czolgosz (2 points, based on your location)
Sir Rowland Hill (6 points)
Julius Nyerere (5 points)
Philo Farnsworth (4 points)
Alexander Winton (5 points)

-3 for Mulan reference. His name is Mushu
+2 for Football
I had 14, and this gives me 3 more. I’m at 17!
I’m posting this here because I don’t want to top the older thread. cmyk had invited me to start a “Stump the girl”* thread because I was technically the loser but my final score wasn’t up when he ended the game. I considered it but I have a headache and don’t really want to do any thinking, also I just a got a new Discworld book from Amazon and I’d like to start reading it.
So it’s all OtakuLoki.
*[sub]btw, thanks for remembering the correct gender.[/sub]
Oh, and so this won’t all be a hijack;
Diff: 1; Who is the author of the Discworld book series? (Anywhere else the difficulty would be higher but I expect a Doper to at least have a passing knowledge through osmosis)
Diff: 2; What is osmosis?
Diff: 1; Name the author who co-authored the novel Good Omens with the author from question 1.
Well, I’m sure of three of them. I’ll give it a stab on the other two.
Wyoming - Equal Rights
Hawaii - Ua mau ke ea o ka ʻāina i ka pono
Ohio - With God, all things are possible
New York - Excelsior
New Hampshire - Live Free or Die
Sternvogel, it is my sad duty to inform you that you’ve managed a clean sweep, here. I have no idea for any of these people. I think I’ve seen the name of Farnsworth before, and Czolgosz looks familiar, somehow, but the answers you’re going to see here are completely random.
Leon Czolgosz - was he part of Baron von Steuppen’s entourage?
Sir Rowland Hill - The recluse who owned the eponymic house from The Haunting of Hill House
Julius Nyerere - A prominent jazz figure
Philo Farnsworth - A famous bookseller
Alexander Winton - One of the House of Winton, from the Honor Harrington books.
Wile E, I hope you’ll enjoy this thread. And that you feel better soon.
Terry Pratchett, aka Pterry
Osmosis is the process by which dissolved solids pass through a semi-permeable membrane.
Neil Gaiman
That makes me 22.
Hey, I meant to post these earlier but somehow my internet connection zonked out. So hear they are plus a few I’ve thought of since then. Sorry for the huge number of questions in one post.

Each letter in the previous word stands for the name a mythical benefactor from whom Captain Marvel draws power. Name each of these benefactors.
Hint: In order, they provide Wisdom, Strength, Stamina, Power, Courage and Speed.
Oh and if memory serves, I’m at 23.
Wow, long post. I’ll try not to drop any questions - if I do, please don’t hesitate to call me on them.
Note, per your instructions, the answers have been rounded to the nearest half unit.
Z, giving us Dragon Ball Z.
(I think, given that my name here on the board includes the word Otaku, meaning a fan of anime in general, you may have over-rated the point value of this question, for me. After all, I know you’ve taken your SN from a bishonen revolutionary hotelier. )
I’m not sure. I think it bookmarks the current web page, but I won’t swear to it.
Internet Abbreviations: YMMV - Your Mileage May Vary
LOL - Laughing Out Loud
IANA followed by another letter, often L or D. - I Am Not A Lawyer, or Doctor, or any other specialized profession that may be appropriate to the discussion at hand.

What, you mean they don’t just mean the yellow plug goes into the yellow hole?
His heel, or tendon at his heel.
His mother dipped him into the river Styx. It was because she held onto him by his heel that his one weak point was there.
Shazam!
This one is pure guesswork. I think you’re going to be losing some points on this, sorry.
S - Solomon
H - Hercules
A - Ares
Z - Zeus
A - Athena
M - Mercury
I think that got all the questions.
Well played. You are correct on all counts except the two A’s in Shazam. They represent the Stamina of Atlas and the Courage of the aforementioned Achilles.
As for the Dragon Ball question, I figured difficulty based on the titular “guy with average knowledge” with nary a thought to your personal qualifications. I will claim no points from that one as 4 is definitely too much to score on that question when pitched to a self-proclaimed otaku.
In the future, I shall try to bear such things in mind (oh and write shorter posts.)
Thus, as I calculate (hopefully correctly) this adds 21 points, for a total of 44.
2 points: What were the factions in the War of the Roses?
4 points: In what year did Napoleon gain political power?
6 points: What computer game sold the most copies before 2000? Please keep in mind that it may have been surpassed by other pre-2000 games since.
I move to strike a point for embedding a clue to the answer in “Indian Hater Jackson”.
Here are my questions:
1 point: Who did the music for Cowboy Bebop?
2 points: What organization did Spike used to work for?
2 points: What about Jet?
2 points each: Name Spike’s and Faye’s ships.
3 points: What kind of dog is Ein?
5 points: What is Ed’s full name? Must be spelled correctly.
5 points: How old is Faye, really?
Lancasters and… umm… those other Brits.
Wasn’t that 1802?
I really don’t have much of a clue here, but I’m going to guess Civilization.

Good grief! I mention I’m an Otaku, and now you’re really coming after that. I hate to admit this, but it wasn’t until this summer that I finally saw Cowboy Bebop.
Yohko Kano
A Chinese-style crime family. And for the life of me I can’t recall the name of it.
USSP - the fuzz, in other words.
Spike flies The Swordfish. I can’t recall what Faye flies, I suspect it’s something suitably piratical. I’m going to go with The Merry Widow, but that’s just an attempt to use my magic asshole.
Ein is an enhanced Corgi.
Roberta something or other, sorry, but I can’t recall, at all, what it was her father called her.
Something like 80, but I can’t recall the exact age. Sorry.
Yay! I get to be green! I have 4. Osmosis should probably include something about going from a high concentration to lower concentration to maintain equilibrium but I think that’s close enough.
[del]I did say it was grossly simplified.[/del] I should have said it was grossly oversimplified. Remember you can get osmotic crossings between equal concentrations across the membrane. Forex, if you take a solution of Sodium Chloride on one side of the membrane, and put some Potassium Chloride on the other, at the same osmotic concentration, you will get K[sup]+[/sup] on the Sodium side, and Na[sup]+[/sup] on the Potassium side even though both sides of the membrane were in osmotic equilibrium.
