DON'T STUMP the OTHER guy with average knowledge

Okay, now you’re just showing off.

Maybe I was just trying to fight some ignorance! Yeah, that’s the ticket. I was fighting ignorance.

Okay, I was showing off a [del]little[/del] lot.

Who directed each of the following movies? (1 point each)
[ul]
[li]Raiders of the Lost Ark[/li][li]Star Wars[/li][li]Night of the Living Dead[/li][li]The Godfather[/li][li]The Lord of the Rings[/li][li]Psycho[/li][/ul]

No, he assassinated President McKinley in Buffalo. I figured that a resident of the state of New York would be likelier to know that than would someone from just about anywhere else, but maybe I assumed incorrectly.

He introduced the concept of national postage stamps in the United Kingdom, which issued the “Penny Black” portrait of Queen Victoria in 1840. Since the UK was the first nation to adopt the practice, it felt no need to place the country name on the stamps, a practice which continues to this day.

He was the long-time president of Tanzania, and wrote essays on socialism which I read in college.

One of the men who contributed to the invention of television, and whose first name inspired the Philco brand of sets.

The Alexander I was thinking of was an automotive pioneer. His Winton cars were manufactured in Cleveland, which was quite prominent in motor-vehicle production before Detroit soldified itself as the center of the industry in the USA.

Looks like I may be starting the next iteration of this thread concept, as I’m 22 points in the hole already. I’ll be back with more questions as I attempt to dig myself out…

Raiders of the Lost Ark - Stephen Spielberg
Star Wars - George Lucas
Night of the Living Dead - George Romero
The Godfather - Martin Scorcese
The Lord of the Rings - Peter Jackson
Psycho - Alfred Hitchcock

That gives me a total of 0 points. It’s like I never played!

Actually, I imagine that’s the sort of thing one learns in elementary school as a bit of local gruesome shivery facts. Since I didn’t grow up in NYS, I missed that. But I can tell you that there are the remains of one of Charles I regicides in the Stow, MA colonial era graveyard. (At the time of the town’s bicentenniel, a decision had been made to exhume the grave, and see whether they could confirm that persistent rumor. The evidence that the man was conclusively one of the regicides wasn’t there. Of course, what remained was compelling evidence that someone had believed that he had been one of the regicides: The remains were missing the right hand and the head - just those parts required to claim the reward offered by Charles II.)

Thanks for explaining who your answers were. I appreciate it.

I look forward to your return.

Good on everything but The Godfather, which was directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
