Yes. Ottawa is the capital of Canada.

It’s 52 without the jokers. You have A-9 for 10 cards, and then jack, queen, king, for a total of 13 in each suit. 13 x 4 = 52
-
It’s 5. The face + the opposite side on a six sided die totals 7. Thus, your pairs are 1 and 6; 2 and 5; 3 and 4.

20
- What is yaoi/shonen-ai? (if you want to plea the 5th on this one, I understand)
- What does it mean to ship characters, and what’s your favorite shipping?
- Define fanon.
- If I told you I wanted to cosplay, what would I be wanting to do?
- Who has spikey hair, wears a blue suit and shouts “Objection!”?
Flotsam and Jetsam, though if you’ve never watched the movies you wouldn’t really have any way of knowing. I asked because I know a 16 year old who can quote that entire movie, so I was trying to throw you a softball.

What is the title of the third book in the trilogy that starts with the books:
Where God Went Wrong
Some More of God’s Greatest Mistakes

2. I don’t think i’ve ever even heard of those books before.
Oolon Colluphid’s controversial God Trilogy:
[ol]
[li]Where God Went Wrong[/li][li]Some More of God’s Greatest Mistakes[/li][li]Who is this God Person Anyway?[/li][/ol]
These books are described in The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I was sure you’d get this one right?
Name two marsupials.

3. …What are marsupials again?? This is embarrassing.
Some examples of marsupials: Kangaroo, Wallaby, Koala, Opossums, Wombats.

Name the two end points of a U.S. Interstate Highway that runs through the nearest city where you live.
(clarification: If you live close to a city through which I-15 runs, where would you end up if you took I-15 all the way to one end, where would you end up if you took I-15 all the way to the other end?)

4. I’m bad at this. So bad at this. I’m going to learn this soon, but I haven’t yet!
Did your dad say upthread that you’ve recently moved to Tennessee?
Let’s assume that Interstate 40 runs through the city nearest to you (it runs east/west across the state, it goes through Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis).
Interstate 40 runs from Wilmington, NC to Barstow, CA.

What do the letters in the acronym AIDS stand for?
BONUS: What does HIV stand for?

5. The ‘V’ in HIV stands for virus, right? …I don’t know anything else.
You’re right about the “V”. HIV stands for “Human Immunodeficiency Virus”. I think that’s the harder one to remember, that’s why it was the bonus.
AIDS stands for “Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome”.
Which South American country is farther north: Bolivia or Columbia?
BONUS: Did I spell each of those country’s names correctly?

6. I think you spelled them both right…? And I think Columbia is farther north? I can’t remember.
You’re right about which one is farther north!
However, it is spelled Colombia.
“O” in the second syllable, not “U” as in “Washington, District of Columbia” or “Columbia University”. Because of the common “U” spelling, people often misspell the name of the country of Colombia.
Who is NOT Canadian: Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Lorde

7. I think Carly Rae Jaspen, either her or Lorde. I know JB is canadian though.
Carly Rae Jepsen rose to fame finishing in the top three finalists on Canadian Idol. You’re correct that Justin Bieber is Canadian as well.
Lorde is from New Zealand.
This is fun. It’s hard to think of things that I think you will also know, because it’s hard to remember what sort of things I had been taught or found out about by that age. I also don’t want to make them too easy either! Hmm.
- What is the name for the Japanese version of the SNES/Super Nintendo?
- Who is the archenemy of Luigi in the Mario series?
- Which president has the same last name as a cartoon cat? (only last name required)
- There are primary colors, secondary colors, and then _______ colors. Fill in the blank. Bonus points if you can give an example of a _______ color.
- Name three magical girl anime shows.
- Feline, canine, equine, bovine, porcine. What animals are these describing? Bonus points if you can answer musteline as well.
Are people keeping track of their negative scores or just patting themselves on the back for proving they know more about 1970s pop culture, history and politics than a 15-year-old?
OK, a few questions.
-
Which anime follows Ichigo Kurosaki and what special powers does he have?
-
What is the name of anime which is really sick or portrays deviant sex?
-
This anime was originally produced 50 years ago, by Osamu Tezuka.
I know what you’re talking about but I wouldn’t describe that subsection of anime as anything other than “pornography” because that’s all the majority of it is. Also I know I knew that at 15 myself but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want my dad knowing that I knew that at that age.
#1 is True. 100 pounds is about 45 KG
#2 is False. 100 yards is about 91.4 Meters
#3 is False. You want a mortgage at a low interest rate.
-1 point.
No, but they were contemporaries in the Civil Rights movement. The person is Thurgood Marshall. During the same time Martin Luther King Jr. was fighting for freedom with marches, essays, speeches and civil disobedience, Thurgood Marshall was fighting for freedom in courtrooms.
-
I think it’s the Famicom!
-
Waluigi?
-
I was going to say Thomas… But that’s not a last name of a president, right? Only a first name… I’m not sure!
-
Complimentary?
-
Sailor Moon, Puella Magi Madoka Magica (Which I HIGHLY reccomend!) and… That’s all I can think of!
-
Feline is a cat, canine is a dog, equine is a horse, bovine is a cow, and porcine… I’m actually not sure! Neither I do musteline.
-
Bleach! I only know one anime character with the first name Ichigo. Haha! As for powers, I haven’t watched the anime, so I don’t know.
-
Boku no Pico!
-
Oh gosh, I have no idea!
Ha!
I’m at -6. She got one of my 7 questions right.
I did put some real thought into it, though. I wanted questions that were challenging but that I really thought she could very well know.
- Name five constellations or asterisms (“unofficial” constellations people recognize) in the night sky. If you can, name more, as many as you can.
- Name the 8 planets of the solar system, in order if you can, but if not just by name.
- Which is bigger, Earth’s moon or Mars? Not in appearance, actually bigger.
- Name any moon of any planet in the solar system other than Earth. If you can, name more, as many as you can.
- Give the name of any star other than the Sun. If you can, name more, as many as you can.
YESS I feel like I did well there.
- It’s actually the SUPER Famicom. The Famicom was equivalent to the NES.
- Correct!
- It’s James A. Garfield, shares the name with Garfield the Cat. The only reason I ever paid attention to that president, to be honest. He’s rather boring otherwise.
- Tertiary was what I was going for. Complementary IS a type of color though! Tertiary colors are ones like red-orange and blue-violet.
- You got the first two I would’ve blurted out, my third would have been Card Captor Sakura. And that’s just the surface of the genre…also yes, Madoka is great.
- You did great there! Porcine hides its meaning in its pronunciation - porc - pork - pigs! Mustelines are animals such as weasels and badgers. “Muste” = “Musty” like their strong scents is how I remember it.
-
Big Dipper, Little Dipper… (whatever their names are, isn’t it Ursa Major and Ursa Minor?) Scorpius, Aquarius, Aries … all the zodiac ones. Ha!
-
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune… (and Pluto which I still consider a planet, god flapjacks dammit)
-
Mars, I think!
-
Io?
-
Umm… I can’t think of anything besides the sun. I don’t know much about stars. :dubious:
Garfield, duh!! :smack:
And ohhh, Pigs! Duh again!
How about some basic cooking questions?
how many ounces in a cup? How many teaspoons in a tablespoon?
How many cups in a quart? How many quarts in a gallon?
multiple choice 1 tablespoon = 1/2 ounce or 1 ounce?
Garfield, duh!! :smack:
And ohhh, Pigs! Duh again!
I was under the impression that the character was named after the other use of “Naruto” 鳴戸 meaning “whirlpool/vortex” (which are in turn named after the city of Naruto). This is backed up by Uzumaki also meaning whirlpool/vortex. While Naruto[maki] 鳴門[巻き] are a ramen topping with a spiral pattern* (and probably the more common use of Naruto in Japan in everday speech), I figured that was just a convenient pun they used for the character’s love of ramen. Are you sure that he was named specifically after the fish spiral? (Of course, it could easily be a little of column A a little of column B).
I haven’t watched too horribly much of the show, but with the Rasengan move in particular, it feels like the “whirlpool” naming was rather deliberate. (I also hear his mom was from some whirlpool-based village or whatever but I have no idea if that was true)
- Narutomaki are, incidentally, named after the whirlpools due to their spiral pattern.
I’m one of those people that haven’t learned to cook. Hopefully that’ll change soon.
So… I actually don’t know any of these!!! I’m ashamed…! :smack:
liquid measurements are based on eights.
8 ounces to a cup. 16 ounces to a pint, 32 ounces to a quart , 4 quarts to a gallon
a tablespoon is a 1/2 ounce. Or you can say two tablespoons are in a ounce.
3 teaspoons are in a tablespoon.
