Don't you people have any problems?

First of all, if I am reading things correctly, the Q&A would be online for all to see.

Secondly, this is the only part that concerns me. What happens when someone does ask for a solution to a private or personal problem? What are Manda’s credentials to answer them responsibly?

How about I send a review of my Titanic dinner? Would that be appropriate for Teemings?

Allow me to try my hand at aiding a damsel in distress. My poor effort is no substitute for a true Manda JO original, but it may be of some amusement.

Enjoy,
Steven

Because presumably you would be able to ask the question “anonymously”, which you can’t really do at the SDMB if you have shared your name / address with some of the other members.

I forget, what credentials does Abigail van Buren have?

What credentials do/did Ann Landers, Dear Abby, Jackie Stallone, Miss Manners, Dr. Laura, Dr. Phil, Dr. Demento, and Judge Judy have/had?

Okay, so I’m being slightly facetious. My point is that - as far as I know - one doesn’t have to have credentials in order to offer advice unless one is presenting oneself as a professional (a la Mumford).

Jeepers Cripes! Never simulposted with an administrator before.

Anyway, I don’t disagree with you in principle, Diane; I’m just thinking it’s a situation that differs from a doctor giving advice, or a lawyer. Then I’d really want to know their creds.

Well, I did read once that she has a black belt in martial arts! Which is why her callers meekly eat up the insults she serves them. (Before the Dr. L defenders swoop in, I will add that she is a licensed marriage and family counsellor or something like that.)
