Not bad habits necessarily, but something that despite knowing better by now (because you harm yourself or something bad happens as a result) you unconsciously continue to do?
Two things come to mind for me…
When I hurriedly reach for something in drawer, dresser, cabinet, etc., I don’t bother to look carefully enough to gauge the top of the opening and constantly scrape my knuckles.
My car has a small compartment on the left of the steering wheel with a fold-down door; if I don’t remember to close it, when I get in the car I will almost certainly take some skin off my knee or shin, and yet…
I mentioned this in a spider thread a while back, but we had a spider that would spin a web every night from the edge of the porch overhang to a nearby tree. And every morning when I would go out to get the paper, I’d walk right through the damn thing. Every frickin day for about two weeks when I finally got a broom and knocked the whole thing down. The door to our laundry room has a tendency to swing about halfway shut on its own. So I’ll go into the laundry room and grab a load of laundry out of the dryer, turn around and - WHAM! Right into the edge of the door
I’ve thought this one through for a while, and I don’t think there is anything. I guess I’ve defeated them all and erected a defensive mind-set against them.
There is just Procrastination. Repeatedly putting off things I should do (but not things I must do – I’m very good at getting those out of the way).
I’m always burning my mouth on hot food and drinks. Well, not every single time I eat or drink something hot, but often enough that you’d think I’d know better.
I often find myself doing some mundane task with my hands like opening mail or fiddling with some object and I’m fumbling and dropping and suddenly realize I’m still holding some unrelated object (like keys maybe) from the previous task, in my hands.
“Gee…maybe if I just put this down first this would be so much easier!”
(Puts keys down, returns to unscrewing lid from jar or whatever)
"Yeah…much better…
