I was bored yesterday and was trying to think of Door’s songs that have been covered by another artist. The only one I could think of is Billy Idol who did a cover of L.A. Woman about 10 years ago. Have any other Door’s songs been covered? If not, why aren’t their songs covered more?
Didn’t Echo & the Bunnymen do People are Strange?
Yes. On the soundtrack of Lost Boys.
They missed a good one: Rats of Unusual Size’s cover of “LA Woman”.
Nothing quite like hearing “Riders on the Storm” as performed by Señor Coconut. Everybody cha cha!
The Nico version of “The End” that I’ve heard (didn’t know there were two) is usually my Exhibit A when I explain why I think Jim Morrison’s lyrics are overrated. They quite often don’t hold up when performed by people other than Morrison.
I love the Stone Temple Pilot’s version of “Break on Through”.
Shirley Bassey covered Light My Fire.
The LA punk band X (with Ray Manzarek as producer, and keyboard player) does an AWESOME version of “Soul Kitchen” thats almost unrecognizable, and IMHO fifty times better than the original. Its listed on the link above, but it still deserves a heads up here, 'cause its one of the best covers of all time.
Somewhat off topic, Dead Milkmen do a semi-parody of light my fire with a song called “If You Love Somebody (Better Set Them On Fire)” that starts off with “You Know That I Would Be Untrue/You Know That I Would Be A Liar/If I Were To Say To You/I Didn’t Set Your House On Fire”

Wow, I was only able to check out the link today using a different browser than the one that I normally use. I had no idea that so many artists have covered so many Doors songs. Thanks you Homebrew.
So everybody, which one is your favorite? Cholo likes Break on Through as performed by STP, and nitroglycerinespeaks highly of X’s cover of the Crystal Ship Anyone else have a favorite

I have Astrud Gilberto doing a cover of Light My Fire, and Stina Nordenstam covering People Are Strange.
Hehe…no, nitroglycerine spoke highly of X’s cover of “Soul Kitchen”

All I had to offer was Jose Feliciano singing:
Lightmyfire! Lightmyfire! Lightmyfire!
But I see that’s been covered.
i hate every cover of the doors with passion
the doors’s songs should only be sing by Jim Morrison, no exception
and yes i’m a huge Doors fan
My fave? Brave Combo’s version of People are Strange. They also do a cover of Purple Haze and play backup in a Tiny Tim cover of Stairway to Heavan.
It’s amazing what Polka can do to Rock.
Nitroglycerine, the Milkmen also included a little reworking of Love Me Two times in the intro to Bitchin’ Camaro.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned the Ramones cover of Take It As It Comes. Or the live mp3 I found of Type O Negative doing Light My Fire. That one was a riot. I thought Morrison was bad, but Mr. Steele takes the cake. That fake-ass poser. It is highly amusing on the other hand, though.
I don’t think thats a good argument against his lyrics. Nico is a great singer but that doesn’t mean she can sing every song perfectly. John Lennon is a great singer but I think he would have trouble singing Carmen.
note, i’m not saying morrison is equal to bizet.
:smack: My bad! I guess I had the Crystal Ship on the brain.
There are so many songs that I really want to listen to.
Homebrew, a polka version of the Doors? I don’t know whether to try find it, or be very, very afraid.
I think that I actually have a copy of Jose Feliciano singing Light my Fire. I don’t know why I couldn’t remember that cover.
