Dope doesn't remember me.

It used to be that once I’d logged in, and ticked ‘remember me’, as long as I didn’t shut off my computer, I remained logged in.

This is no longer the case. Now, even though I haven’t shut off my computer when I return to the Dope I have to log in again.

As I haven’t changed a dang thing on my computer I’m wondering what could be causing this to happen?

(Mac, OS 10.6, Firefox)

If I click on a link to another thread, I have to log in again to see it, even though I was logged in already.

I wonder if anyone else is experiencing anything like this? I am not having this problem on any of the other sites I visit, just this one.

I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who has any suggestions for me. Thanks.

I’m on XP Pro and Firefox, and it’s been happening to me for a while. Is it anything to do with being inactive on the board for a while?

Also, when I’m logging in, I have far more success using the top right log in boxes, than I have trying to log in on the box that appears in the center of the screen.

That sounds doubly weird, as you shouldn’t need to log in simply to read a thread.
However, as I stated before, many threads that I have read aren’t getting marked as read if I leave the site and return.

Who are you again?

Running 10.6.3, FireFox 3.6 myself.
I don’t have this problem. I stayed logged in even through restarts.

Have you tried removing your ‘straightdope.com’ cookie? (through the ‘privacy’ panel of FireFox prefs)

Sometimes cookies’ll get screwed up in ways that cause odd behavior.

Has to do with “cookies” and how they are handled by the setups in the combination of “browser” and “operating system”. Because there are so many combinations of both, the only way anyone knowledgable can answer your question “definitively”, would be to actually -see- your setup. All you’re going to get here are “educated” WAGs, or maybe “misedumakated” WAGs. But WAGs are all you are going to get. I’m not going to stick my dick in that meatgrinder.

Squink nailed it, it seems to be fixed now. (fingers crossed)

As a not terribly savy Mac user, I don’t tinker with settings or change anything around. If it’s working, I’m leaving it be. Which is why it’s so odd when something like this just pops up.

Either way, it’s all working smoothly now, so thank you, one and all, for your efforts.

Or maybe “you” should put “double” quotes around every few “words”. Seems to work for “Cheshire” Human.

I actually think Cheshire “Human” would be better. How can a human use that many scare quotes.
