Many of us have images on our hard drives that we would like to share here from time to time. Many remain unshown for lack of an SD common image space. I will eventually get around to setting up a virtual gallery on some web host but, in the meantime, I’d like to be able to email my proposed post with attached image to something like SDimagecheck@SD.com. Checked for propriety, viruses, etc, I am either posted on the thread with a link to DIB or denied by email.
After extensive discussion we’ve determined that the current situation really works best for us and nothing further need be done here in terms of anything official.
People use photo sharing sites all the time here with few ill effects.
For us this would not give much upside – we don’t really need it and there’s lots of places to post pictures already. And there’s considerable downside – porn and formatting problems are two that come to mind right off the bat.
We have allowed direct posting of images to the board in the past and that was a disaster, so we’re really dubious about opening that can of goatse up again.
You can upload images to Flickr with a free account (the limit is 100 MB per month, which can be a lot of pictures). There are other photo-sharing sites that you can use, too – but Flickr is the one that I use a lot.
Thanks to all for looking into it. I guess I’ll get about setting up an account somewhere. Thanks also Giles for your suggestion. I’ll start with Flickr.
Yes, once you’ve joined you can add photos. There’s no moderation, though the admin (Zyada) and the moderator (rjk2tx) can remove photos from the group if they wish. That’s the most common pattern for public groups on Flickr – some require an admin or moderator to approve photos before they are added, but that doesn’t happen in this group.
