Doper Afflictions

And here I was thinking, “Wow, you people are screwed up” until I started listing my own afflictions:

diabetes
asthma
obesity
nearsightedness
bruxism
high blood pressure
allergies

If you want to list character flaws, add arrogance and elitism to the above list.

Cyclothymia.
I wish I were lighter, but I don’t think I’d be considered obese.
Very fragile internal body chemistry; I have to be really careful as to what I put into my body. Not too much caffeine, cold medicine, NyQuil, etc. I seem to be hypersensitive to all of them. I even found out recently that birth control isn’t much of an option because of this; I get too damn moody to function.
20/200 vision (at least) in both eyes. Totally correctible with glasses. Also, I have the rarest (X) form of astigmatism.
My ex once said I was Borderline. I think he found the definition on a website. I just think he was being an asshole, FWIW, seeing as my own doc said that I just have a few tendencies in that direction (which mainly manifest themselves when I’m stressed).

Migraines

Bad knees

Totally knackered sinuses.

One eye short-sighted, the other long-sighted. Vision in my right eye is now 20/200; I had a lazy eye as a child, wouldn’t wear a patch and did not do my eye excercises religiously. If I’m very drunk or very tired my eye goes in even now. This charming trait caused much hilarity amongst potential boyfriends.

Gosh, this is getting a bit Monty Python…

Right. I had to get up in the morning at ten o’clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing “Hallelujah.”

Clinical depression.

Chronic migraines.

Bad knees (I would put exactly what’s wrong with them here, but it’s an extremely long and confusing name, and I always manage to fuck up the spelling anyway.)

And again, I can’t remember the spelling (it’s late, I have a migraine, please forgive me), but I’m allergic to gluten - which is in wheat. Thus it means I can’t eat bread, biscuits, cakes, most breakfast cereals… the list goes on.

TMJ.

Asthma.

Flat feet.

Lactose intolerance.

A slight social phobia.

Man, I’m screwed up.

chronic migraines
herniated disk (L5S1)
mild TMJ syndrome
chronic insomnia
mild OCD (see chronic insomnia)

slightly nearsighted,
anxiety disorder & inability to handle stress,
depression,
heart palpitations,
extremely sensitive stomach,
flat feet,
obsessive compulsive disorder (numerous fidgety-type things),
mildly lactose intolerant,
constantly fatigued & tired,
arthritis-like pain in my joints and hands,
very severe back pain (the last 3-4 weeks),
insomnia,
frequent headaches,
random stretches of over/under eating,
recurring nightmares,
workaholic (I have a hard time making myself go home),
a pea-sized cyst on my chest that keeps appearing and disappearing,
recurring twitch in my face around my eyes (esp. on the left),
the lower left part of my mouth, chin & gums are permanently numb and tingly due to complications with removing a severely impacted wisdom tooth,

…and at any given time, I usually have several cuts and/or wounds on myself from accidents at work with the blades and glass.

When I was younger, a friend/youth therapist diagnosed me as having borderline personality disorder, but I think I am well past that now. I was a monster at 15, though. Was almost hospitalized for it, but I’m not going into that.

[ul][li]Depression[/li][li]Very fidgety[/li][li]Possible ADD (ADHD?)[/li][li]Lung problems - every cold turns into bronchitis[/li][li]Speech impediment (lazy "r"s). I had to re-learn how to talk after having my esophagus replaced when I was young.[/li][li]I’ve been told by two different doctors that I might have Marfan Syndrome (never been tested, though).[/li][li]Hay fever[/li][li]Nearsighted[/li][li]Mild astigmatism[/li][li]Don’t like crowds (or most social situations)[/li][li]Too shy for my own good.[/li][li]Prone to very severe foot cramps / dislocated toes[/li][li]Acid reflux syndrome[/li][li]Borderline high cholesterol[/li][li]Excessively sweaty palms[/li][/ul]
Jeez…I’m more messed up than I thought :frowning:

apathy … oh fuck it.

Fibromyalgia/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Short sighted

One of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia is memory problems. At the moment, I’m drawing a complete blank though I know that list should be longer. Ahhh, bliss - when your memory is so bad that you forget that you’re sick!

I could list things like insomnia, chronic pain, etc, but they’re part and parcel with the Fibromyalgia so it would be more a symptom list than an illness list.

Crohn’s Disease
Possible Mild Depression
Frequently Tired
Boredom

IBS.
Raised blood pressure.
Really crappy knees - Actually all my joints (and back) are bad, the knees are the worst though.
Fluidy swelling on left ankle.
Chest pains.
According to my doctor, a 1 in 8 chance of a stroke or heart attack in the next ten years.
An almost uncontrollable urge to kill, hurt or maim people when I stop smoking (not just the first few weeks irritable type stuff. I once quit for 18 months and felt the same way all the time. It felt like I was cracking up.)

Let’s see…

  • Fibromyalgia (hi, cazzle!)
  • Relapsing-remitting MS
  • Clinical depression (you may have my antidepressants when you pry them from my cold, dead hand, TYVM)
  • Avoidant Personality Disorder
  • Exercise-induced asthma
  • Piss-poor eyesight, coupled with a lazy eye
  • Weight problem
  • Reflux (which, judging by the increasing number of antacids I chew, is getting worse)
  • Migraines
  • Genetic predisposition toward alcoholism and addiction
  • I don’t have a lisp, but I have a heavy Canadian accent that only comes out to play when I’m either really inebriated or really tired

That might be it. I reserve the right to come back and add more, though.

Good lord, and I associate with you people?

On the other hand, I think my mutual funds are fairly heavily invested in health care and pharmaceuticals, so I guess I’m happy.

(I am kidding. My own list would be lengthy)

Spina Bifida - I’m a paraplegic with some use of my legs) & crap that goes with it (spotty lack of sensation in my lower body, incontinence, had numerous orthopaedic problems which required major surgeries)

Epilepsy - inexplicably appeared when I was 19, now controlled with medication

Depression - took hold shortly after the first eplieptic seizure, been controlled with medication & therapy for a year +

Nearsightedness - my eyesight started declining when I was in the third grade. Until the advent of ‘really thin lenses’ technology, I had “Wow! Those glasses are really thick - lemme see if I can see anything…Holy crap, you’re blind!” glasses. I’ve had contacts since age 15, but I still use my glasses a fair amount.

Latex Allergy - yes, you heard me right. It’s the type of allergy that worsens with exposure. I’m at the point now where if latex gloves get near me or are removed near me, my face becomes itchy, my eyes itch, my lips redden & swell, & I get a tightness in my chest. Same thing with blow-up balloons. I can’t wear band-aids nor allow potential sex partners to use latex condoms (I’m a polyurethane girl). I can’t eat avacados, bananas, chestnuts, macadamia nuts, certain other tropical fruits (mangoes/papayas/maybe both).

And I get the hiccups a lot, I think. Actually, it’s not so much I get them frequently as this; when I do get an attack during the day, I am virtually guaranteed at least one more attack in the next 24 hours.

Okay, I’m done.

-Clinical depression (seems way too popular)
-Borderline Personality Disorder
-Generalized Anxiety Disorder (this seems popular as well)
-Immune Deficiency (Has nothing to do with AIDS or HIV, and I seem to be growing out of it)
-Allergies (the worst ones being potatoes and shellfish)

-I’m a virgin… does that count as an affliction?? :-/

Ventricular septal defect (hole in heart).

microcytic anemia
shrugs

Gout

I never saw this on the first go-round, but this thread alerted me to it.

So mine would have to be:

[ul]
[li]mild depression[/li][li]post-traumatic stress disorder[/li][li]bad skin (just a bit TMI)[/li][li]mild cerebral palsy[/li][li]a limp (and I love it when people point it out to me like, “Do you know you walk funny?”; most recently, a kid pointed it out to me, so I couldn’t yell at him )[/li][li]a high prescription for my glasses (like 1000; I do know I’m very nearsighted)[/li][li]trichotillomania (for over 12 years now)[/li][li]possible OCD[/li][/ul]

F_X

Darn, my smilies never seem to work out.
