Doper Book Fairies--I just met my new class!

Ok, mark me down for Anthony, assuming he’s still available. I’ll also try to find a few extra sports books for the boys.

Kat --got you down for Tiatiuna.

Archergal I’ve got you down for Anthony.

This means as of right now, there are 12 kids with Fairies and 12 without.

This is going so much better than I ever could have imagined.

Yay for Book Fairies! Yay for books! Yay for the SDMB!

Yay for nighttime Tylenol ™ so Aries will get some sleep tonight.

I’m late to the party, but I so want in on this. I’ll take whoever is left.

Count me in, I’ve sent you an email to get details and the like.

Count me in, I’ve sent you an email to get details and the like.

Just assign me one, Aires.

I’ll take absent Brianna. Just let me know what she likes whenever you find out!

i’ll take absent monique, or anyone else who’s still available!

Assign me one, too, Aries. Plus I’ll send along some things for the whole class.

If she’s not already taken, I’ll take Alicia.

Just assign me one, ARIES. E-mail me the name or post it here and I’ll get some books together. Yay! (Oh, and when you give me a name, please also let me know about what level that student is reading at. Thanks!)

Good morning! (at least for me anyway). Out of the 24 kids in my class this year all but 3 now have Book Fairies. YAY!

I’m going to post the list I have currently and if I have anything wrong on it, please let me know and I’ll fix it.

Then after the list I will answer some of the numerous questions I’ve been getting at my hotmail account.

For those who are ordering from Amazon or anywhere and just shipping directly to me…if you could email me some facts about your state/country then I’ll put them on an index card so your child can try to figure out where you are located.

This program runs September through April so if you are doing one book a month I will only need 8 books. Since September is almost over they will probably get 2 books in October.

For those who have indicated they would like to help but can’t do a book a month…I put together Halloween, Christmas and Valentine’s bags for the kids also. I bake cookies, include stickers, pencils, various little trinkets I find at the Dollar Store, etc. If you would like to send anything like that that would work also.

I already have a small pile of “extra” books kind people have sent. These will be used to make sure a child doesn’t get left out during any particular month. Anything left over will be given to the school’s library for the use of all the students.

For those who have said they are sending extra things for their child…this is great but please remember that we don’t want one child to be getting a lot of stuff and another child feel left out. I’ll fill needs where I can as I see them.

Thank you again for all the input, ideas and encouragement. I hope you enjoy hearing about your kids throughout the year and feel like you have contributed to something very worthwhile.

Now…3 kids left that need a Fairy…

Floyd
Robert T.
Robert N.

I will take Floyd!

Great fruitbat. Thanks!

Now we are down to Robert T. and Robert N.

If no one else volunteers, I can handle being a book fairy to all three (Kenya and the two Roberts).

I’ve talked to my daughter (who, not coincidentally, is also named Sarah) and she’s going to help me pick out a pile of books. She’s been a voracious reader for years and I think she’s probably more in touch with what a kid would like than I am, being a borderline geezer and all.

Now, I just need to know where to send them…

I’ll run up this weekend and get a copy of A Cricket in Times Square. There are 3 or 4 readily available books in the series… so if she likes them that takes up half the program!

Gosh, I am all excited. I wish Mom was still alive… she’d be an awesome book fairy!

I made it to Borders this afternoon and bought some books! I’ll be out of town most of tomorrow, so it may be Monday before they get in the mail.

Do you have a Borders near you?

I feel old though, after looking at some of those books…

Oh wait, I am old.

I’m not going to be able to ‘adopt’ a kid for the entire year - it’s doubtful that my finances (or my overscheduled brain) will let me do it consistently , though I did send a decent number of books out this week (including several sports biographies - I’m pretty sure there was a Michael Jordan and I’m positive there was a Chamique Holdsclaw).

What I am willing to do is send small things occasionally - and I’m more than willing to make another trip to the used book store in, say, November or December and send another chunk of books then, to be used however.

I have access to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame - I may check it out and see what they have that’s inexpensive, but still fun, and plan to snag some stuff around late November and send it along.

I will take whoever is left! I meant to get here earlier, but the SDMB was conspiring against me.

Please let me know what my little one would like!
