Doper Diplomacy - Fall and Winter 2002

What - you were gone??

And dancing as fast as I can, buddy. You hear me?

To whom it may concern…

If you’re going to curse at a player (poor form in the game, as I think others will attest) while opening negotiations it would be a very good idea to make sure your hotmail account won’t reject replies because your inbox is full.

Just a suggestion from a helpful soul.

Man. Every doggarn day it’s some new problem.

For the last few hours my email’s been acting all wonky and skittish. So if anyone has anything they’d like to tell me, I’d appreciate it if you’d send it to BOTH my emails:

amolochko@attbi.com
inthetank2001@yahoo.com

Thanks much. This is particularly important for 1040, as our turn is due in about 24 hours and my moves appear to be pretty much still totally up in the air. Hopefully somebody will send me a set of orders for my units so I don’t have to stress about it.

Actually it’s kind of important for 1046 too, since the turn’s due in a few hours, if there are any problems with my orders (Dave, I just sent them to you from yahoo to both your addresses so I’m hoping that’s all good) or anything else I’ll need to know about.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and good luck in the Dipping to come this week.

Oh also, Omni, sorry to spread everything all around, but I made another post on the fathom thread (since that was where I brought up the football thing in the first place) earlier this morning, and what’s funny is, it actually turned out to be true. Egg on my face or what, eh?

Dip 1046:George has been delayed for 24 hours by request. Moves are now due Tuesday morning.

It’s gonna be a busy evening’s Dipping for those in both games!

Let’s just hope I can keep my countries straight with the orders this time.

Hey, do what Alex did last time - send in orders for everyone!

Oh yeah - 13 hours to the 1040 deadline, sports fans!

Man, the tension is brutal. I have three games with deadlines tomorrow morning. One is a black press game in which I don’t even know the names (nor can I communicate with) the other players.

Oof.

And I have a game adjudicating tomorrow.

But two of my games have ended. Including the most recent HYPERDIP. Think I should start a new one?

I thought that the point of the game ‘Diplomacy’ was, well, diplomacy. What’s the point when you can’t talk?

I’d like to play. I played Axis&Allies again yesterday, a whole game (in 7 or 8 continuous hours). I lost, but I played Germany and the more experienced people said I played well. Japan fell before I did, which made for some nice rewritten history.

Good morning everyone.

Is it my turn to make with the bugles and things?

You wouldn’t make me go to sleep without seeing the turn, would you RT?

I’m still waiting on one set of orders in Dip 1040. The player has been notified.

Are we there yet?

Are we there yet?

Are we there yet?

NMR him!

NMR him!

No mercy!

Still waiting.

Go to bed, Alex.

RTF, I got a note from you and sent orders last night. If you didn’t receive them please let me know and I’ll resend. I was having trouble with one of my computers so had to switch to the back up. If it’s not me then you can ignore. Or if it is me you can ignore. Everyone else does.

We’re not ignoring you, Shibb…

We’re hearing you and dismissing it, that’s all.

Ok, that’s better then.

Make 'im trade with England. That’ll show 'im!

Unless it’s England, in which case. . . uhhhh. . . .

Hold on a minute.

JC, or RT with black press, I understand there is no communication at all among the players. Can someone send a general announcement to the GM, who would transmit it to the players? Also, is there such a thing as ‘grey’ press, or something where each player can only send a limited number of messages (eg. 2) to each other player? I could be interesting if Turkey had used all his messages to Russia, and had to request France to send one. France could really screw one of them over.

Types of ‘Press’:

White Press: Messages sent to all parties where the sender is indentified.

Grey Press: Anonymous press sent to all players. The sender is not identified but may not masquerade as another player.

Black Press: Press sent to all parties where the sender is free to identify him or herself as another player.

Here’s a recent example from the game I’m playing:

Get the idea? All communication is above the board but no one knows which to take seriously. It’s confusing, especially early in the game.

Now can you guys guess who I’m playing? Bear in mind I’m not permitted to tell you.

But feel free to speculate.
