Sorry, but I didn’t realize how long it’s been since I last updated. There have been a number of ups & some serious downs, long days, tests, more tests, decisions, etc.
He is still making progress, moving a bit more, awake and responding for longer periods, but still has a long way to go. The current objective is to get him off the ventilator to a tracheostomy, then a heart stent, then off to long-term rehab.
Meanwhile, I tell him he’s getting the full spa treatment. When I went back this afternoon, his nurse told me that she’d bathed him, washed his hair, changed his gown, fluffed his many pillows, swabbed out his mouth for minty freshness, pretty much everything short of a manicure/pedicure. I pointed out to him today that I have to walk all the way over to the bathroom in the corner of his room while he gets to just lay there and pee. I got “the look.” I also refer to his feeding solution, which looks like a melted chocolate shake, as Soylent Green (to the amusement or confusion of the staff, depending on their age). He just rolls his eyes and grins.
I tell the staff that his first words when he can finally talk will be “Woman, what the hell have you been babbling about all this time?” I can’t wait.
Yay for progress! Also I agree. The lazy bum needs to get to the point where he has to go to that bathroom and pee like any decent human being should! Tell him I am jealous that he gets the chocolate flavored Soylent Green. Plus, he still has to get well so he can finally solve the mystery as to whether or not I am actually gay.
I am happy to hear he is progressing.
