So I was down in Summerville, SC this morning. Taking the girls to the annual Flowertown Festival down there. You know, seeing the sights, buying some soap, that sort of thing. Even eating BBQ chicken skewers way to early in the morning.
I spot a particularly photogenic creek with a nice root system. Out comes the phone, click goes the camera, woosh goes the pic to Facebook with my note that I’m in Azalea Park at the fest.
Less than 5 minutes later my phone buzzes. It’s out own Ginger of the North saying that Skerri and I – with whom she is both FB friends – are both there at the fest. Color me surprised! I toss her a friend request but don’t get an answer until tonight.
Still, for a few hours I was wandering within a half a mile or so of another doper and knew it. Doper near misses. What a wonderful world technology makes for us, eh?
There’s a doper that for, I don’t know how long, I was driving underneath several times a week and didn’t know it.
Turns out she works in a tall office building that houses a bank on the first floor with an underground drive through that I use pretty often.
Until 2007, I worked two blocks from another Doper–and, given where she worked, almost certainly passed within a few yards of her at one time or another.
If any of you have been to a convention/trade show in Las Vegas in the last 17 years, I might have been the guy behind the lighting console in your General Session or breakout room.
