Doper parents: What's your favorite brand of diapers?

When I was 15, I learned that you never feed a 9 month old baby a bottle of apple juice, and then play ‘airplane’ with her. Unless, of course, you’re thirsty for some regurgitated apple juice all over your face and in your mouth.

Agreed. When I was pregnant with my first, I got diapers as gifts, and stocked a pack or two myself, mostly in the newborn size. When she was born, she was only a shade off nine pounds–the newborn size were too small from the start.

The next pregnancy, I was smarter–or so I thought. I bought the big pack of diapers, but this time, I got size one. That way, if the baby was big, they’d fit, but if he wasn’t, well, he’d grow into them!

If the baby was BIG, did I say?? 12 pounds and then some!! At least I hadn’t opened the diapers and could exchange them for size twos. Grrrrrr…

The third time, I said forget it, and just waited till she was born!

If price isn’t your first concern, I’d go with Pampers all the way. They’re extremely absorbent and we never had any leak problems.
We wound up settling on Luvs after the first month or so because they seem to be the best combination of price and performance. They’re really absorbent, rarely seem to leak and they stay on both of our little guys well.
Huggies were great, but something in them caused both of our boys to break out. Every kid is different so YMMV.
The Wal-Mart brant (Parent’s Choice), White Cloud, and any of the other bottom of the line brands we tried were useless. You might as well have used a paper towel and a rubber band around the waist. We ended up changing them so often it more than made up for the price difference.
Good luck. You’re about to experience the best (and smelliest) time of your life.

Huggies

I do not like the smell of the Pampers swaddlers. They remind us of the hospital, and that’s all you smell in the diaper aisle. We used them cause they were free* (as part of that lovely bill you get from staying there!) from the hospital. For the newborn we used the Huggies Newborn gentle care.

With child #1 we tried all sorts of diapers, store brands grocery and Target, Luvs, Huggies etc. We always came back to Huggies and that’s what we’re sticking with.

As far as helping for blowouts. After changing the diaper, run your finger along each side where the elastic is to ensure a secure fit. It is by no means a guarantee, but I really believe it helps!!!

Go now and sign up on the various diaper sites, they’ll start sending you and will keep sending you coupons. I always seem to have a coupon when it’s time to buy diapers and that’s at least 1-2x a week, at least in the beginning. Also check with your local grocery store, they sometimes have a ‘baby club’ like they have here at Publix in FL.

Good luck and congratulations!
