Doper Poets - come participate in the SDMB Poetry Sweatshop!!

Just posting to say that I won’t be able to make it – work’s crept up on me. I’ll look forward to reading the contributions, though!

Folks - I’m keeping a list partly because the rules changed on consensus, which is cool and fun - my original conception was that each poet would get his or her own set of words to work from, which would have necessitated me knowing who was in the running. Now that we’re all going from the same set of words, the ‘list’ is much less important, and I’m quite open to last minute entrants. That being said -

If it’s been precisely one hour and we haven’t seen a poem from someone I know was interested, I can check and see if the Dope says they’re online or not - they might just be having ‘hamster difficulties.’ I can be a little bit loose about the time, give or take five minutes. If someone is a last minute surprise entry, I wouldn’t know to wait for them.

About the spare threads - certainly the ‘Poll’ option is the easiest way to keep count, and I don’t know if it’s even possible to establish a poll in an old thread. The ‘Anthology’ thread was my just my idea for keeping the poems separate from the ‘how and when’ discussion that’s gone on so far. I just want to make it easy for everyone to see ALL the poems and choose a favourite…

I did mention the possibility of ‘extra’ threads in my original post to the Moderators, and they gave their blessing to the idea without saying ‘Keep it all in one thread.’

As a moderator, if I may …

You do need to start a new thread for the voting; you can’t add a poll into an existing thread.

And I have no problem with multiple threads: one for logistics (this one), one for the poems, one for the poll. I don’t see that as significantly different from all the dual-thread games in the Game Room, where one thread is for the actual play and the other is for kibbitzing.

too late to get in?

Hello, everyone. The three words have been randomly generated, and they are as follows -

**Transubstantiation

Buttocked

Overbook **

Use these words in what ever form you see fit; the voter’s will judge how well you have incorporated them.

The SDMB Poetry Sweatshop Anthology thread has been started, and can be found at this link. Please post your completed poems there, for clarity’s sake.

In one hour’s time, I will start a poll to vote on your favourite of the posted poems. Best of luck and inspiration to everyone!

Is the green flag waving yet?

Sorry, was watching the top of the thread…d’oh!

Not at all - welcome!

Submitted. 1st post!

Transubstantiation is a word
I don’t often have to use
It means nothing to a bird
And a Protestant would just refuse!
While “buttocked” I’ve never even heard
And yet I have nothing to lose
It’s poetry, forsooth, and the words are blurred
Overbook the poets, and we’d all have the blues.

Although I blame myself for not noticing this thread in time, this is pretty much exactly what ended up happening. But I was awake anyway, so meh.

The poems are wonderful. Please, Le Ministre, do this again! Very Fun to read.

Submitted in the other thread, too. :smack:

An Ode to Air Travel:

Flight overbook’d? (Oh what a treat!)
Or poorly-Buttocked are the seats?
Eschew corporeal transportation
Travel by Transubstantiation

Bear with me while I explain:
Morph yourself into a wafer.
Travel crisply on a plane
Then reverse; it’s likely safer.
