Doper Preppers: Is COVID 19 the "Big One"? Anybody buggin' out yet?

In the midst of all this COVID19 business, I hear of a lot of “hunkering down,” but very little on “bugging out”–grabbing a firearm, a bugout bag, and heading for the hills. If COVID19 is not “The Big One,” what with the government ordering “home incarceration” and all, what is the signal for the MRE crowd to vacate everyday life, wire up the claymores, and head for the bunker?

Had Mr VOW not been so rude as to have a “Widowmaker” heart attack on January 17th, he and I probably would be sitting nice and isolated on our 36 acres out in the middle of nowhere.

We came to SCal at the beginning of December 2019 for holdays with our family here, and to go to our various and sundry doctor appointments. We most likely would have returned to AZ at the end of February, beginning of March.

Everybody (me, Mr VOW, The Daughter, The Son-in-law, the Son, and the Daughter-in-law) all realize that if he had had the heart attack in AZ, he’d be dead now. Our property is 30 miles from a town, and at least 60 miles from a hospital. And I can’t use a telephone.

Being cooped up in The Daughter’s house avoiding the coronavirus is nothing compared to being a widow out in the middle of nowhere.

My perception of the Prepper community (quite possibly incorrect), is that the pandemic itself isn’t much of a concern right now. It’s not giving them any more reason than usual to go underground or to avoid civil authority. Yes, they’re watching events as they unfold. Probably some of them have plans in place if/when large scale civil unrest occurs, if/when martial law is declared and if/when they current location and shelter-in-place strategy no longer seems viable.

We’re just not there yet and the people I have spoken to don’t seriously believe we will get there anytime soon. Most seem to accept that staying in place and keeping a low profile is the smartest move.

Son-of-a-wrek is our family prepper/conspiracy theorist, he’s not bugging out physically but he is decidedly nerve-y. We are watching him.
He’s still working from home. He does have to go on calls. They stopped any calls to Louisiana early this past week.

I live bugged-out. We are miles away from anywhere and can self sustain for a long time. Except for, a big one, my insulin.
If I bite the dust my family can carry on for awhile.
