Doper user names and their origins

I listen to classical music primarily - mostly 18th through 20th Centuries. But an older piece (a fugue perhaps?) is OK now and then.

I started out as Mars Felix on AOL and then I fell in love with a man whose handle ended “dada.” We got hitched so I changed my screen name to Mars dada. That just doesn’t scan, and I always liked the name “Otto” (originally from “Repo Man”) so I changed it to Otto dada. Here I decided to drop the second part and just be Otto. The man is long gone but I still have the name, beause it’s how I’m known on the ACLU boards I moderate and everything’s set up under that name.

I have a nerve afliction that causes my hands to shake sometimes

Got the nick name once in highschool and then agian in colledge! The second time it stuck. I thought it was ment to be becuase the people I knew in colledge did not know my friends in highschool nor did they know about my nick name. They just gave it to me all over again.

Well, I know that the nameSkye is a female name. So, The other one… why were you called Sky? I am just curious

Maybe it took on that sound cuz of Mother Nature an all, who knows…

I’m new too, but considering I was going to start offering people cookies if they could guess the origins of my SN I guess this is as good a place as any… So, here, I’ll give ya a cookie if you can figure out where mine came from!

A merchant’s mule-driver beat me with my own lance and in my addled state I could not spell my name properly.

I’m still pretty new here.

Here’s the story behind my name.

The two parts of my name rhyme.

Pretty boring, huh?

I use it elsewhere, mostly on Wordox™, which I love. (Think Scrabble™, but with the ability to steal the other players’ letters, and therefore points, by outflanking them or adding on to them, kind of like Othello™)

it’s my neopets username… i try to use Cougarfang or Farinia (my pet’s name) to minimize confusion (mine  i have a notoriously poor memory…) i got the idea from a neopets player called PantherPaws (which i thought was a really cool name), so i took MY favorite relative, a body part from it(Cougartail just didn’t sound right…), and voila, Cougarfang is born.

Well, back in the days of yore and man was young, there was a young boy. This young boy was nameless. He would prance through the woodlands and the plains, naked as a jaybird and carefree as can be. Every single morning, he would greet the woodland animals. “Hi, Mr. Squirrel!” he would say to one (a duck). “Hi, Mr. Turtle!” he would call to a rabbit.

The animals disliked this idiot, nameless boy calling them by their inappropriate names. So they hatched a plan… the Owl, the wisest of the creatures of the forest, would fly up to the boy and ask for his name, and then botch it up as the boy had been doing.

So the owl flew down and landed on a rock. After vomiting up a pellet of rodent bones and waste material, the owl said, “So, boy, every morning you call us by name, and yet we have nothing to call you. What name do you have?”

The boy thought for a few moments, and then said, “I shall be known as Lord Desecritius von Traipsenbrothel.”

The owl, grinning, shouted back the first piece of gibberish that came to mind: “Hi, SPOOFE!”

The boy thought for a few moments, and realized that the owl’s gibberish made such an easier name than “Lord Desecritius von Traipsenbrothel”, and adopted that instead.

And, thusly, I was named.

Oooh, but I know the true origin of SPOOFE

He told me late one night on Sunset Boulevard. I swear, it’s true.

Me?

I know coffee. That’s about it.

Mine comes from the Neil Young album of the same name. I’ve been a fan of Neil’s for a long time, and the strange thing is, “Zuma” is one of the few albums of his that I do not own. I think the name just sounded cool to me at the time I registered. I guess I should buy the damn album now that I’ve revealed this.

I have a fetish for a professional wrestler named Jeff Hardy. A friend of mine made up a song to the tune of Barbie Girl called Hardy Girl.

I made it one word and changed the spelling of ‘girl’ to ‘grrl’, more punk rock that way.

My wife’s family call me grim (contraction of Graeme rather than their summary of my personality) and her face is small and elfin (so my pet name for her is pixie), and when it came to choosing a joint email account, grimpixie@whatever.com was a logical choice.

From there, it has become my user name of choice…

Also, I like the allusion to the Grim Reaper[sup]TM[/sup]…

Gp

I’m a superhero. The self-appointed protector of the SDMB. I was going to be Superman®, but he has better lawyers than I do. So we compromised. And it’s also the name of the hamster from The Simpsons.

To pay homage to the large North American beast. (In fact, I believe there is only one official Kwyjibo, and that makes it extra special.)

[sub](Besides, as I have found out in the past few days, another Max makes things confusin’.)[/sub]

well, I was going to be Puck (a la midsummernights dream) or Pluk (from a well known dutch children’s book), so I sorta compromised and became puk.

My name is Bill. I have nieces and nephews. Ta-freakin-da.

One of the six or eight nicknames I picked up in college was “Zippo,” because I never left the house without a chrome Zippo lighter. Even though I didn’t smoke by then I used the lighter to start conversations with people I wanted to talk to. After noticing a girl pulling out a fresh cigarette, I’d “zip” over and light her up.

When I decided to de-lurk on the SDMB, I tried to get “Zippo” but I couldn’t for some reason. So after about five or six different names were rejected I finally typed in “Zappo” out of frustration and it stuck.

Zap!

It’s deep water, that’s why a duck.*
