I was born in Knoxville, but I have lived in the Middle Tennessee area pretty much all my life. I grew up in Hendersonville, and then moved to Nashville in 1977. I have lived in South Nashville (Caldwell Hall area, near the Zoo) since then.
I’m in Birmingham, Alabama, and I’ve lived in Alabama all my life. Does that count as Southern?
Not to folks in Montgomery and Mobile!
Bullshit. It’s a college town, a lot like Boone, Blacksburg, and countless other southern college towns that are more culturally liberal.
Absolutely nothing that answers the question I asked.
Nothing all that startling to report yet, but here’s a bumping snapshot of how it is stacking up at the 138-Voter point.

It might be fun to compare these voter counts with the ones copied from the old 2006 thread. (see Post #64).

Charlotte isn’t all that southern, but head a few miles out and it gets really southern. My parents live only 25 miles from the center of Charlotte, even closer to the city limits, and it is extremely country there. It’s a whole bunch of farmland, Baptist churches, and big trucks. It’s incredible the difference in peoples’ accents only a few miles outside of the city.
I grew up thirty minutes north of Charlotte. I call it Redneck County for a reason.
Here’s a comparison summary:

Just so you’ll know – if you didn’t see already – I put a one-year closing date on the poll. So there’s no real hurry to vote. But I’m going to back off with the “bumping summaries” until some new milestone has been reached. So odds are this will fall out of view very soon.
