Dopers, explain you names

Title says almost all of it.
One post/ie. keep the comments to yourself. Rip on people you hate somewhere else.

I like food.

I like tequila.

Last year I lost the use of my left eye. Odin, king of the Norse gods gave up one of his eyes for wisdom. I like to think that I gained some wisdom when I lost my eye.

I am not violent! :dubious:

Short for Shemembast. I got it in my church. It means “Bast’s Warmth.” Well, when you include the “Bast” part. Otherwise it’s just “Warmth.”

Romanisation of my real name - first used it when i played Civilization II as the Romans all those years ago and it just stuck.

GSV Consolation of Dreams is a Ship name for Iain M. Banks’s Culture universe I came up with myself.
Atarian was a reference to my old game console; an Atari Jaguar.
Fnordprefect is a reference to the word “fnord” and Ford Prefect from HHGttG.

I have a penchant for jumping out of perfectly great airplanes. 343 jumps. So far, SO good…

Dunno… I’ve always been fascinated by the name. In my pretentious youth I seriously considered changing my middle name to Xerxes, just so I could have the initials ‘NXR’ (much cooler than my real middle name).

How sad is that…

Thats…so…cool

Now, how seriously can you take a username thread where the OP doesn’t even participate?

Mine is another name for Alka-Seltzer, as coined by one Mr Bernard Black.

Don’t you know? Don’t you know… everything?

S**t, guess I will break the one post rule. (thanks for asking.)

Chewie is my dog I just adopted a month ago. I call him chewbasta short for chewbastard, in order not to corrupt the neighbor kids.

Born on Candlemas, same as James Joyce.

There is no explanation - it just is.

I haven’t got straight hair
I’m not a man

It’s been years since I dreamed of doing this, but I just might yet do this (change my middle name by deed poll). My friend and I have rigged up a beer cooler in the garden shed whereby as you approach the shed part of the shed wall automatically opens revealing the cooler (you’ll see where I’m going with this in a minute). When asked by a somewhat incredulous neighbour why we’d obviously taken considerable time and effort doing this (and not having prepared an answer beforehand) we both - somehow - answered in unison:

because we can

And so it is with my middle name.

That said, I don’t know how Mrs Xerxes would take it. There are only so many juvenilities she’ll wear, I suspect…

The sophisticated answer: Dragon Phoenix (Long Feng) is an ancient Chinese symbol, representing both the male (Dragon) and female (Phoenix) part of life.

The correct answer: the name of a Singapore restaurant we used to frequent. I liked the sound.
