Dopers Parents: When Are You Taking The Kids Trick or Treating?

I have a three year old. My plan to take her out for display and candy once my husband gets home around 5:30. We’ll probably stroll around the neighborhood for an hour or two and then spend the rest of the evening watching for trick or treaters.

I took today off. I just got back from the 4th grader parade. At 1pm I go to the 1st graders parade. At 3:30pm I will pick up my daughter and take her home to start trick or treating. My son actually goes trick or treating with his after school classmates. I figure I will take my daughter out for about 90 minutes tops and then in the evening, take both kids out if they want for a shorter Trick or Treat session.

I have to decide what I am wearing still.

My daughter is going as a Gypsy Girl and my son is Darth Vader.
What is your daughter dressing as LavenderBlue?

My little girl will be marching around the neighborhood dressed as a lady bug. My mom is good at crafts. She made the costume for us.

I had never encountered this before I moved here; namely, there is no city-wide trick-or-treat date. Each neighborhood defines its boundaries and sets the date and time for trick-or-treating individually.

Of course, my son loves it, because that usually means multiple trick-or-treat nights with friends. He’s hit two so far. Our neighborhood event is tonight, as is the residence hall trick-or-treating at the campus where I work, so we may hit another two tonight.

My son (age 11) is dressing as a video game character: Riku from Kingdom Hearts. I doubt anyone will have a clue what his costume is supposed to be, but he’s happy!

I’m picking up my boy (4yo) around 2:30 to bring him up to the college for our Halloween costume contest. After that, he will get to go around the college for trick-or- treat; all of our offices participate, so the kids can just make a circuit of campus and leave with a metric ton of candy. We’ll likely spend the evening sorting candy and passing it out to trick-or-treaters.

He’s going as Yoda- my **Faeriebeth ** made him a pretty kick-ass costume from scratch. He really wanted me to be Luke Skywalker so I could carry him around in a backpack.
Instead, I am without costume today. However, our office is required to dress up, so I was forced to dig a costume out of the ‘punishment box’. I am now wearing a tri-color dunce cap, and have decided to be the Pope of the Celestial Church of Candy Corn Enlightenment.

Yes, I said that our office has a punishment box. What?

Humph. It’s now 19:30 local time and nobody’s been round. I’ve got lots and lots of chocolate left over.

We’re going at 6:30 right after pizza with a couple of neighborhood kids.
The 5 y/o is Superman (the costume version where the suit and tie are pulled apart to reveal the S chest) and the 2 y/o is a puppy. So so cute, they are.

That’s so kick ass! I told the SO and he said he might have to do that with our future kids. Thanks for the idea!

What, no pictures? Bumblebees in da house!

Our borough has a fixed trick or treating time each year. It’s usually the Thursday before Halloween, but this year, it was on Halloween itself. This is so they can provide maximum police coverage; also, local businesses offer their parking lots so parents don’t have to park on the street.

We had a few kids round tonight. It was kinda strange … only a few lil kids, and lots of teenagers. When I was a teen, we didn’t trick or treat.

I was hoping that someone would claim the sweet lil doggy I found today. Sadly, noone took notice of our “Found Dog” poster. So, tomorrow we’re off to the local vet … and the day after to the other local vet … and then perhaps my 75yr old dad will have forgotten she doesn’t belong to us.

So, no candy for me, but I’ve acquired a sweet dog for a few days til we find her folks, and I’m liking that. Lord knows my puppy is in love. Pervert. He needs to leave her alone.

But I want candy! And it’s all gone to the trick or treaters. Such is life.
