Although I have generally leaned toward believing peeker’s claim, I think fluid’s analysis above is quite compelling, and although there is slightly over an hour left, my employer would strongly prefer that I not spend that hour obsessing about Mafia. Soo… I am going to go with the strategy I have been advocating all Day, and hope we live to see another day.

And next game when someone shows purely single minded purpose and knowledge, RyJae, remind me to vote for them as a matter of course.
This makes me very uncomfortable. It seems to me like there ought to be 4 scum out there, and I thought we’d all be split half and half, really. I’m concerned that I’m town on a bandwagon full of scum, helping to kill our last chance at a Town win. Not on my watch, scumbutts! I think I’ve had a change of heart on the subject, and I hope this works out well.

buffy, if you know that you are town, and we all know that fluid is town, then the scum can’t all be voting the same way. I think you are making a mistake. Let’s hope it works out.
The town voted cautiously for most of the day, but some last minute strategy has resulted in a tie vote between RyJae and peekercpa. They both claimed to be the detective and both accused the other of being lying scum. So, it comes down to a coin flip. Peekercpa pulls a quarter out of his pocket, and tells RyJae to call it in the air. He calls heads, and peekercpa tosses the coin.
It lands tails, and RyJae curses under his breath.
He makes a desperate plea as the town wrestles him to the ground. They bind his hands and feet and lift him to the gallows. “No, you’re making a mistake! I’m the real detective!” he cries as they struggle to get the rope around his neck. With a violent shove, Ryjae falls off the platform and the noose snaps his neck. Thing Fish, Dotchan and fluiddruid search his body for a knife or a gun to prove that he was scum. They find nothing. Behind them, the other Dopers laugh maniacally.
Ryjae, Town Detective has been lynched.
Peekercpa, bufftabby, Hoppy Frood, and cckerberos each pull guns from their pockets. The others turnaround in terror. Their screams are silenced by a flurry of gunfire.
Thing Fish, Dotchan, and fluiddruid have been killed by the Mafia.

You are Mafia, along with BLANK, BLANK and BLANK. The four of you broke in to the bakery to steal pies, and killed Cecil Adams when he threatened to rat you out. You will discuss amongst yourselves during the Night Phase, and decide whom to kill.
The Night Phase will last for about 72 hours. The first name submitted to me by any mafia member, will be the target. You do not need to specify who will be making the kill. After submitting a target, you may no longer discuss the game outside the game thread, until the next Night Phase begins. If the deadline is reached without submitting a name, no one will be killed.
You will win the game, when the mafia outnumbers the townies, and nothing can prevent you from killing the rest of them. You win as a team, even if you are dead.

Townie

You are a Townie and you are the Doperville Doctor. You were heart broken when you found Cecil’s dead body in the town square and there was nothing you could do to save him. You vowed to prevent this tragedy from happening again. Each night, you can secretly protect one other member of the town from being killed. You may not protect yourself, because that would be selfish.
You also have the power to vote for a lynching. Be careful with this power. Once the deadline is reached, the player with the most votes will be killed.
The Night Phase will last for about 72 hours. The first name you submit to the moderator will be the protected target. If the deadline is reached without submitting a name, no one will be protected.
Also, Please note that your Protection WILL NOT be successful if you are targeted and killed by another player.

Vigilante (One-shot)
You are a Townie and you will vote with the townies, but you feel that democracy might not be enough to send these villains to their graves, so you are willing to take matters into your own hands. But you are not a bloodthirsty killer, and you certainly don’t want to stoop to the level of the mafia, so you promised yourself you would only kill one suspect. So when you think you’ve figured out who the mafia is, you can target that player during the night, and no one will suspect you. But if you accidentally kill an innocent player, you might have some explaining to do in the morning. Choose wisely, and don’t be hasty.
You also have the power to vote for a lynching. Be careful with this power. Once the deadline is reached, the player with the most votes will be killed.

A lot of suspense towards the end… I thought we were safe what with RyJae and Dotchan both getting most of the votes up until that final turnaround (I knew it was a bad idea writing a PM, peeker!)
Oh, and for the record, peeker and I weren’t actually working together in the post that RyJae kept pointing at… I did know there were breadcrumbs but did have to actually go looking through his posts for them.
