Doperville Mafia - New Players Welcome!

We rawk! dance dance dance

oh believe me you all did a fine job. there is a but, that but is now when the town go back and read the things i pointed out they may :smack: because even if it wasn’t planned you still answered for him etc.

good job though scum you did what scum need to do to win, take control and sow confusion!

be back tomorrow well i can read now but not post really my computer is down until new part comes tomorrow

And Kudos to you for fighting the good fight up until the end.

And big Kudos to my fellow scum! Woot!

Now to take a break from playing mafia. I really didn’t get to devote as much time to this as I had wanted to, due to real life getting in the way. And I feel it’s only going to get worse as the summer goes on.

And all of you are welcome to play in my Discworld-themed mafia game that’s in the early planning stages. I’ll be running it at some point in the offboard site. It might not be for a while, though.

Yeppers. RyJae’s suggestiom for a PM quote was genious. But I didn’t have much choice. In for a penny, in for a pound type of situation.

Mod Thoughts
I would like to apologize to everyone who played this “Newbie Game” that didn’t turn out to be newbie friendly. I should have limited the number of players to reduce the number of posts and conversations. Aside from that, I think the game ran well, except for the Town side. :frowning:

Day One: Thing Fish took an early lead in the voting, but anyrose drew some last minute suspicion from her frustration. It’s not uncommon to mis-lynch on the first day, but the Town needs to weed through the clues to be succesful the next day.

Night One: Blaster Master drew attention from every power role, which was not surprising. The Mafia guessed that he may be the Doc and self-protect, or might be protected by the Doc, and so moved their kill to someone else (Koldanar).

Day Two: Things fell apart for the town. RyJae and Oredigger77 received early votes, which led to RyJae’s claim (smart move). The voting shifted to The Unkempt One, who never claimed (not a smart move). At this point, the 5 players who received the most votes have all been town, and the Mafia slipped by with no suspicion. Blaster Master almost developed a case on Hoopy Frood, but he never followed through.

Night Two: Scum got a lucky hit on the Doctor, which eliminated the town’s chances of reaching an odd number of players during the day, significantly reducing their chance for a win. RyJae got a lucky investigation, but the Mafia conjured up a plan for a false claim to stir up confusion.

Day Three: Blaster Master never made a case for Hoopy Frood, and HF didn’t even acknowledge the suspicion, I suppose hoping to fly under the radar and not get caught. Unfortunately, no one noticed HF’s lack of defense, which could have been a major turning point in the game. More importantly, though, no one started any discussion about skipping the lynch to try to put the game at 5 against 4 instead of 4 against 4 on Day Four. Regardless of the number of Scum, an even number of players is always a scum advantage as you approach lynch-or-lose. Oredigger77’s suspicion from Day Two carried over, and the Town’s roughly 50-50 shot in hitting scum (from the unconfirmed) was a miss.

Night Three: It didn’t matter who Scum killed. A successful kill meant a 15 in 16 chance of winning.

Day Four: Dotchan caught a logical paradox in peekercpa’s “investigation,” and fluiddruid made a great analysis of the role PMs. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late.

And everything that Cog888 said. I thought I was toast after Dot’ post but it inexplicably just went away. Go figure.

Thanks to our MOD. A great game was had by all - especially if you were scum.

In all seriousness, thanks Cog. If it weren’t for the folks willing to sign up to MOD games there would be no other place for the derelicts to congregate.

So… when’s the next game? I sucked this time and want to improve!

Damn. Well, thanks for the game, everyone, it was fun although frustrating. I definitely learned a lot and won’t make the exact same stupid mistakes next time… but I think I need a few months to decompress from this game. Look forward to playing again and revenging myself on you scummy scum next game. Thanks for modding, CoG. And nice analysis on the PMs, fluid, you hit the nail on the head. Too bad it wasn’t enough. At least I finally got to vote for a scum… Cuss it all to tarnation!!

PS bufftabby, don’t think I didn’t notice all the snuggling!!

Nuts. I knew I should have paid more attention in this game.

Sorry all.

Good job, peekercpa. You had me doubting my vote for you all the way to the end. When the votes swung to ryjae, I thought: “Crap. Town is toast.”

Turned out I was right. :frowning:

Great job scum, you definatly dominated. I deffinatly have a lot to learn for next game and since this game was so short it will be easy to learn from it on rereads.

Ne effing edits. Scum tell.

But you had me.

So total kudos for your analysis 'cause you almost had me voting for myself, ala RyJae. Your analysis was so right on I was like, MF, she’s reading the boards.

And I just want to add one last thought and it should go without saying: RyJae is one fucking tenacious SOB.

Amen. Lesson learned from Simpletown and this game:** RyJae** getting worked up and arguing himself blue in the face despite the fact that nobody’s buying a word of it is a definite null tell!

What I consider my two big mistakes (other than not posting enough):

  1. Not typing fast enough to unvote anyrose
  2. Letting myself be talked out of voting for either cckeroberos or the Dueling Detectives on the day oredigger77 swung.

Ah, well. I do need the vacation from Mafia, as I accidentally picked up a different addiction.

I wouldn’t mind re-running the LOLCats Mini either here or on the off-board game, though.

I think I liked the pee jokes better. Okay, yeah, I totally snuggled. I hear I do that sometimes…

Sorry about the non-newbness of the game. I feel at least partly responsible for that, but it was my first (and only) game as scum, and I think I learned a lot about the Town side of it as well.

I think it’s hard to make a newb game that really works as such. I think Mafia’s really trial by fire. Follow a game once, then jump right in.

Hell, this game is part of the reason I finally started posting on the SDMB after, oh, like nine years of lurking heavily (off and on, depending on 'net availability). It’s where most of my posts on here have come from. I don’t think I really do much else that would qualify as a hobby, but my associates would likely classify it as an addiction, so I guess I still don’t have a hobby.

Eep! We won! Woooooooooooooooo!

The intersting thing was you were the only one on our team that had more than one game of experience. peekrcpa and I had only been in one game before, and cckerberos was a total newbie.

It’s definitely a different experience paying as scum.

Can we have a link to the scum boards so we can see how exactly they tore us to little pieces?

Well bollocks. All in all it was a 50/50 shot… still I wish I had gotten to the game sooner.

FWIW, if I had survived Day two, my vigilante target that night was going to be bufftabby. She just seemed way to sure of her vote on me, almost seeming a little bit smug about it. Maybe it wasn’t the best of reasons, but it was going to get her killed on night two…

I regret not role claiming. I realize now that I should have role claimed and let the chips fall where they may. I have to hand it to the scum…they played a great game and I really had no idea who was scum until the game was over.

For a newbie game, this was sort of a trial by fire, but I really learned a lot. I am looking forward to playing again.

If you had role claimed, I would have had a difficult decision as Doctor - protect you or protect Ryjae, who I really thought was a false Detective. Then again, the scum would have had the same dilemma - kill you, go for the doctor, or kill the Detective claim assuming he wasn’t scum.
