Doris Day had died

BBC article

Que sera, sera.

Loved her in Love me or Leave Me. RIP…

I was wondering how old she was. She seemed to be around forever.

I did love her films of the 50s and 60s. Heck, as a kid, I watched her TV show through its various permutations. I see from IMDB that this is her last acting credit. But she has a LOT more citations for “Soundtrack”, right up through last year.

I was hopelessly enamored of her when I was a kid. That fresh, freckly face was irresistible. I read a biography of her some years ago. She apparently was sick of that goody image and longed to make a naughty movie, but was convinced not to do so.

Loved her movies and her songs. Que sera, sera.

RIP, Doris Mary Ann Kappelhoff.

RIP Miss Day; thanks for sticking around as long as you did.

Betty White and Carl Reiner are also 97. Maybe we should brace ourselves.

Wow. Que sera sera, indeed.

Every year Doris day did a phone interview with a local radio station on her birthday to a) prove she wasn’t dead, b) prove she wasn’t crazy, but simply didn’t want a lot of people seeking her out and c) talk about animal welfare.

Here’s an interview she did just over a month ago.

Doris Day was still alive?!

We watched an old Carson a few months ago with her as a guest.

She just sparkled.

She was preceded in death by her only child Terry Melcher. Melcher was famous for working with the Beach Boys (Kokomo) and many others, like Charlie Manson.

Sad that she withdrew from the world for so long.

I think I have Lover Come Back still on the DVR …

Aloha, Doris.

I’ll always remember Groucho’s quote: “I knew Doris before she was a virgin.” (or words to that effect).

Doris Day’s only child Terry Melcher had been living in the house that was later leased to Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate, and the Manson followers thought he was still living there and they were going to kill him for not recording Manson.

ETA: In Tribute

Watch it, hey, I’m Doris Day
I was not brought up that way.
Won’t come across
Even Rock Hudson lost
His heart to Doris Day

(But he was gay!)

She didn’t, she just withdrew from showbiz and celebrityhood. She was no hermit.

C was huge for her, at least when I lived in the Monterey area. She owned a hotel, Cypress Inn, in downtown Carmel by the Sea, which was notable for at the time being extremely pet friendly She also gave tremendously to local animal welfare charities. I never met her when I lived in the area, but I worked with people who did and they said she was unfailingly gracious.

Such a loss.

It may not have ben a “naughty” movie, but her role in The Pajama Game (one of my favorites of the era, not least because it featured Carol Haney) was a helluva lot edgier than her usual image.

I’m definitely going to listen to “Sentimental Journey” before turning in tonight. One of my all-time favorite songs. :o

Now if I can only find a copy of “Rove Me or Reave Me and Ret Me Be Ronery”…*

RIP, Dor!

*A McHale’s Navy quote.

I was thinking about her just the other day. She was such a favorite of mine when I was young.

RIP Doris.

My Mom’s uncle always claimed he hid cash in his Doris Day LPs.

When he died, we checked every LP. Nada.
