Doris Day recently celebrated turning the big 9-0.
Since I was a small child I always referred to her as Doris Delay. Love her flicks.
Whatever will be will be. Words to live by.
One thing I’ve always wondered: why did Doris retire after her TV show was cancelled? I can’t remember another actor of her stature who totally left showbiz.
Doris Day’s husband was also her business manager, and, by all accounts, a pretty terrible one. When he died he left her deeply in debt, which is why she agreed to do the TV show. By the time it ended, she was past 50, had been performing for almost 35 years, and there wasn’t much work out there.
She didn’t retire completely, though. She did a couple of TV specials, and later had a show on cable.
I appreciate the fact that for years she did one, and only one, interview each year on her birthday, to prove she wasn’t crazy.
Wow, another star I heard about today I thought was dead. Dick Butkis too.
The biography I read of her related that she yearned to play the bad girl for a change. By all accounts, she had a killer body and a great ass under all those mommy clothes. Every once in awhile you could catch a glimpse of it, but her image was too squeaky clean to allow the camera to linger.
Hopefully never with Howard Stern “So are you even an anal virgin?”
She did pose for a few pictures that showed off her gorgeous legs.
