Double Pit: Pot Smoking Teens and Me

Chiliwack, since you are so concerned about your children witnessing drug use, I must ask you, do you drink Alcohol in front of your children? Has your child ever seen someone smoking a cigarette? Has your child ever seen you drinking coffee? If the answer to any of these is yes then your child has already witnessed drug use. Pot is illegal, yes it is and that is a crime in itself and changing, so how are you going to handle the future?

This thread is making me realize that a snow cave would be a pretty sweet place to hot box.

The more likely situation is that they walked far enough to be out of sight of their house (and their parents’ eyes), then lit the joint, walked up the street, stopped at the end of my neighbour’s (shared) driveway, and turned around. They were smoking it within 10m of me for almost a whole minute.

Their first pass was enough to make me roll my eyes about teens these days having no respect. Their second pass, while still smoking, was enough to make me say something.

What is worrying about me being able to identify burning marijuanna by smell?

Just to clarify, I’m concerned about my children being exposed to illegal drug use. With respect to alcohol and caffeine, education and setting a responsible example would be the way to go there. That is how I will deal with marijuanna should it ever become “legal”, and not simply decriminalized.

If your against teens smoking pot and I am fully behind you there, then perhaps you should look into throwing your support to Dana Larsen and the Sensible BC campaign or at least get to understand more about the issue. Why not support at least some kind of legal frame work for controlling the drug market? Listen, we need to face facts people are going to use “Pot” whether you or I like it or not, so why not regulate the market? I mean this, Prohibition has Cannabis being a schedule 1 controlled substance is a farce from the get go. All it means is that it is sold on the uncontrolled and unregulated and untaxed black market and, honestly, I’ve never heard of a drug dealer asking for ID, have you?

What did they have no respect for?

Nothing that I’m aware of though some people often confuse this with hypocrisy.

I don’t think it is a matter of if it ever becomes legal but when it becomes legal. At least that’s my hope. I am of the belief that the government should have just as much control over what you put into your mouth as they do over what comes out of your mouth. Why not explain to your kids about the illegal drug use, educate yourself about the drug, learn about how dangerous it really is and how many people die from it and explain about civil disobedience. I’m sure it would be a great educational experience. As I mentioned the Sensible B.C. campaign is a good place to start, I am by no means endorsing them but listen to what they have to say learn about the issues, don’t just dismiss as a druggie issue.

Final question, would you have preferred it if they had been using a legal drug?
Sensible BC

If anyone is interested in a real gut buster in regard to the consequences of legalization, read this article on Forbes, these geniuses think “precisely because the profits to be made from the marketing and selling of soft drugs will be enormous.” and this “North Korea, will enter the burgeoning drug market.” I mean seriously the Prohibition argument is just plain stupid at this point in time let’s not kid ourselves any longer please.

That was an uncharacteristically stupid opinion piece from Forbes. They may want to re-think the author as one of their regular contributors. They have previously run much more sensible articles dealing with marijuana decriminalization.

I agree Forbes has done much better in the past, but this is the absolute height of stupidity isn’t it? Let’s not stop short with just saying it was stupid, let’s name those people so that everyone know’s who they are and then maybe next time they open their mouths, people may actually stop and think before blindly accepting such utter garbage.

Would you have been as upset by some teenagers taking a smoke break and stopping in front of your house?

I could understand if your kid was outside but he wasn’t and I bet they wouldn’t have stopped in front of your house and smoked pot in front of a little kid.

I think you are entering the “GET OFF MY LAWN” stage of your life.

I think that we should pass laws that limit yopur ability to smoke pot in public places.

“Daddy, daddy, what are those boys doing?”

“Well son, those lads are smoking marijuana.”

“What’s that?”

*“Glad you asked, kiddo. It’s a plant that has been cultivated for thousands of years, and many people through the centuries have enjoyed smoking it for the pleasant feelings it creates. Unfortunately, there are folks in the past hundred years or so that decided to make the practice of smoking the leaves of this plant illegal.”

“Why would they do that, Daddy?”

“Good question, but the answer is long and complex … let’s just say that it suits the purposes and “agendas” of these powerful people that adults be allowed to smoke tobacco but not marijuana.”

“But those boys aren’t adults, Daddy.”

*“That’s right, so they really shouldn’t be smoking at all, should they? They just want to look grown up. Remember, don’t smoke anything until you are eighteen, hopefully by then, pot will be legal and we can all be treated like grown-ups.”

Problem solved.
