That’s right, I’ve been laid off.
If anyone knows of a decent sales type job in the Denver area, please let me know ASAP. I would like to be thankful for employment this Thanksgiving.
Your buddy,
Brian

Damn! Bummer, Mr. C. I know it probably doesn’t help much, but I can tell you every time I’ve been laid off/“let go”/etc. I always end up with a better, higher paying job.
That said, I see my company is hiring salespeople in Denver. What kind of sales do you do? This is high tech. The requirements say:
“3+ years sales experience in the high tech industry. Proven track record of meeting and/or exceeding sales quotas. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Good computer literacy including a knowledge of the storage market. BS/BA degree”
I’ve done high tech sales for three years, how interesting. Check your E-mail, I’ve shot my resume over
Aw honey, that’s sucks! I hope they gave you a severance package!
Let us know what your background is, I’m sure someone will come through with a lead.
I’d offer to put you in touch with my hubby, but his company looks like it’s going to do the same thing as yours.

Bummer my friend…
That’s two of my friends in as many weeks that have been laid off, both in high tech industries.
If I hear of anything I will let you know, I still have some contacts up there and will email them today for ya.
Major bummer, Mr. C!
(for a second when I saw the thread title, I thought this was going to be another foreskin joke).
Nice of them to tell you right before Thanksgiving. Is it effective immediately?
I wish you luck - I’m looking for employment as well, although I became unemployed voluntarily. It’s amazing how quickly you can go from bitching about work to being grateful for a call from a temp agency letting you know you’re wanted that day.
I hope things work out for you! I am the best resume writer on the planet, used to look at thousands of them when I worked as a recruiter and I write them for all my friends. Let me know if you need someone to give it a once-over.
Take care,
Maggie
Skinny!
Sorry to hear… not to sound all sunshine n’ roses, but when I got laid off last March it was the best thing that coulda happened to me. I got an even better job that I love, as opposed to the shitty one I got paid dirt for and hated.
Hang in there, best of luck and all that.
Dude! That blows! Those bastards! Well, I can’t add anything constructive, I just think they’re big doody-heads for laying off my pal!
Don’t sweat it, man. I’m sure there’s something better waiting for you out there.
Geeze, that sucks Brian. Especially right before the holidays. Nice timing on their part.
We just got hit with downsizing here, too. I was spared, but one of the positions they eliminated was the job I had just last year. Two of my best friends at the company (with close to 20 years of service between them) were let go so it has been a pretty shitty month morale-wise.
I wish you good luck in your job hunt. Keep us posted.
Dennis
Mr. C, got your email & replied. Check your Yahoo address.
CRAP CRAP CRAPPITTY-CRAP crap crap CRAP

Crappity-crap crap crap crap.
Man, I’m sorry.
Ah man that sucks. Good luck. All I can say though is that if you took my advice this wouldn’t have happened. You were spread too thin. You can’t be pimpin’ the ho’s, hitting the bong, and doin’ the sales. You have to have focus.
Sorry Mr. C.
I just shot off an e-mail to my girlfriend who works at Telco of the Rockies (Not sure if you have expressed disdain for them in the past! :)) to see if they have any sales positions open.
If that doesn’t work out, I’ve got a contact at Premio, and I’ll put in a good word for you!
Damn that sucks big time MrC, I think the timing couldn’t have been worse if they had deliberately done it that way. I have been through this in the past, I know it’s ahrd to deal with it but you will get through it. I know that someone with your talents and skills will not be out of work long, someone will give you the job you deserve. Remember Brian that we are pulling for ya. Take care and catch you in chat later.
Keith
Aw, man, that sucks. Have you checked out any of the job sites like www.monster.com yet?
Boy, that BITES a big fat hairy red one!
I guess they wont be sending you down to Houston anymore. Our loss.
Lot’s of high tech jobs down here!
I hope you find your hearts desire there in Denver.
There’s a lead in your mailbox. Not sure if there’s anything of interest to you, but what the hell. Best of luck.
Bottle of Smoke, I think I might know where you work. I’m a UW grad and have lots of friends and family in Madison.
Just think of all the spare chat and SDMB time you’ll have for the next few months!!!
Hey, I’m an optimist.
Oh, well, that’s just lovely—right at Thanksgiving, and with a new baby!
Did they come to your house and kick Tiny Tim’s crutches out from under him, too?
Ouch. Hate when that happens. I was downsized exactly 10 years ago as well…Monday after Thanksgiving, after I had even come in on the long weekend. Ironically enough, I’m now back at the same magazine, different company, in a much better position.
My best advice is take this time and enjoy yourself. Yep, that’s right. Sleep in. Spend extra time with friends and family. Heck, do some midweek skiing. It’s rare when you get the opportunity to have several weeks or more to yourself. There are many, many jobs out there. You’ll find one. In the meantime take as much advantage of your free time as you can. You may never get this chance again.
Good luck!
