Doxxing of ICE shooter?

In the thread about murder of Renee Nicole Good, there’s a mod warning:

I don’t know what was in the cornfielded posts. However, multiple reputable news organizations, including NPR, have reported on the shooter’s identity. Are we allowed to discuss, by name, a person accused of murder? Was there something in the cornfielded posts beyond an identification of the killer behind the mask?

Yes. Their home address was also included.

Gotcha–never mind, and sorry!

Ah, that makes sense. Absent that explanation it seemed very odd to me that a name that was all over the media (and some of those news stories are even linked right here in an FQ thread) would be considered doxxing and earn a warning. But now I get it.

No way you all could know. @What_Exit jumped on that rules violation very quick. No harm to ask!

I also want to credit (in addition to @What_Exit’s fast work) the three (!) posters who flagged it. You’re all part of the effort. Thanks again.

I just updated the Warning post to specifically mention that the address was included in the post.

It was a busy morning and then I was away for the afternoon. I should have included that.

I once had faith that, most of the time, in this country justice would prevail. Thanks to the filth in the current administration, that perhaps naïve assumption has been stripped from me. What the system cannot deliver its citizens must. If this warrants a scarlet W I will wear it with pride.

The idea of “doxxing” simply does not apply in this case. Outside of a few narrow special exceptions (e.g. covert intel operatives) there is no legitimate reason I shouldn’t know the names of the people who work for me paid by my taxes.

Once again, I don’t think it was just the name that was given out.

You’re correct. It was also the home address. That was the issue.

As stated in this thread more than once, the shooter’s home address was included, which is not normally public knowledge for government employees.

ETA: Ninja’d

Yep, that and such stuff as phone numbers and stuff is NOT public knowledge.
