In Act I, when he’s reading the letter from Bad Horse, you can faintly see the letterhead through the paper.
And it’s a horseshoe of some kind.
That’s attention to detail.

I’ve been enjoying Harris’s work on How I Met Your Mother – which Alyson Hannigan is also on, thereby completing the Whedon circle – since its premiere, so I haven’t been surprised by his performance/suitability to Whedon’s work in Dr. Horrible. But I am surprised by how well he can sing!
<slight hijack>I would strongly suggest all new fans of NPH’s voice here check out the cast recording of the revival of Sondheim’s Assassins. It’s great musically, with both Sondheim being wonderful and the cast giving great performances, and it’s just plain interesting. A musical about presidential assassins. Joss actually remind me more of Sondheim than other musical writers because of his wordplay. You’ll love it. And his love of Neil in this musical (his fave Sondheim I think he said) is why he wanted him for Dr. Horrible. </slight hijack.
Just watched it, will be making my inlaws and husband watch it. Wonderful and fun. I love how slimy Captain Hammer is, and how he’s afraid of ducks.
The songs are great.
yes! LOL the ducks thing was one of the funniest moements for me in Act II
For more NPH singing try Sweeney Todd in concert (his scene starts at 3:45)
So Capt Hammer watches the blog huh? The blog where our hero says, “It was less successful in that I inadvertently introduced my arch-nemesis to the girl of my dreams, and now he’s taking her out on dates, and they’re probably going to french kiss or something.”
That would be how Hammer knew he was in love. Nice touch.
“The only signature he needed was my fist!..With a pen in it…cause I was signing…”
Can’t wait for part III!
My totally unsubstantiated theory is that Penny is really Bad Horse.
You guys are getting me so pumped for this. My wife and I are waiting until we have all 3 parts to watch it.
Our Saturday will contain both The Dark Knight and Dr. Horrible.
Indeed, I’m expecting a very entertaining day.
Whoa. That indeed will be a Very Fun Day.
Cervaise, Bosstone, have you seen Harold and Kumar go to White Castle? You have to. Neal Patrick Harris is in it only briefly… but it’s awesome.
And you know, the romantic subplot in this is fantastic. Especially the end of the second act where Captain Hammer goes “Doctor…”
Oh, of course. The rest of the movie is mostly okay but NPH single-handedly elevates it to the status of a classic.
You mean, the Thoroughbred of Sin?
I meant Gandhi.
So, how does everyone feel about the romantic subplot? I find it interesting that Horrible is clearly in love with the idea of Penny, rather than Penny herself. At least, that’s how I read it.
This is how I see it: Billy is in love with Cute, Nice Redhead at the Laundromat - not so much Penny the Crusader For Helping The Homeless.
In this way, he is quite similar to many socially-awkward guys who have trouble actually talking to girls.
I’m still kinda rooting for him, though.
There are interviews on the website with Felicia Day & also with two of the writers if anyone’s interested in filling in some time while waiting for Act III to launch www.doctorhorrible.net
Act III will be up in an hour
40 minutes now…I was going to go to bed, since I’m having back spasms and have to work early tomorrow…but if they really are going to start it at midnight, I COULD stay awake that long…I was getting a snack anyhow…hmmmm…
I… should have been expecting that. Joss gets 40 minutes and he tries to break my heart. Typical. But wonderful series, I’d be interested in more. I’m actually kind of stunned, really.
Nice reveal of bad horse though. And yay the return of the Mutant Enemy logo, backwards. Those was cool. Still, ouch.
