Just been enjoying a Dr Kildare marathon on TCM. Pure soap, but fun. I never realized that Red Skelton was a regular.
I really miss the era of enjoyable films that don’t have violence or blatant sex.
I caught just a piece of it awhile ago. It was striking because the part I came in on had Lionel Barrymore as Dr Gillespie talking to a guy who was having abdominal pains, but only had them on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Turns out the guy was running five miles for exercise on those days.
So Dr Gillespie tells the guy to stop trying to recapture his lost youth with all that ridiculous running exercise. “Accept that you’re middle-aged, and you don’t have a sixteen year old heart.”
Yup, lie around like a slug. What a good idea.
Yup, you could pick out the outdated medical techniques and advice. Still, very fun marathon. $20 a week plus room and board for an intern!
