Dragnet 2002

Apparently, Dick Wolf of Law & Order fame is booked to produce a new Dragnet series. What usually comes to mind when Dragnet is discussed is the 1968-70 series in which Joe Friday went around giving speeches to hippies, but I’m hoping Wolf will produce something more like the earlier TV program, which was a hard-boiled police procedural.

I’m anxious to find out how it’s going to go, in any case.

This is the city. Los Angeles, California.

When Dick told me that this was gonna be “a millennium treatment of a cop show,” I was worried. Though I wasn’t alive for the original Dragnet, I was interested in how it would turn out.

In a year, the results of the trial.

CLANG!
A MOBO LXXXV PRODUCTION

[sub]Sorry for my bad Dragnet cliche impersonation, folks.[/sub]

I haven’t seen any of the other Dick Wolf productions, but Law & Order invites comparison to Dragnet in terms of style, punchiness of dialogue and efficiency of story development.

That guy is reading my mind, I swear it. A few years back, I swear I had the idea for Special Victims Unit. And just a few months back, I had an idea for a remake of Dragnet where it was serious, like the first half of Law and Order. I thought the guy who did Law and Order would be perfect for that show. I’ve never seen the original Dragnet, so I only know the silly version.

If they hire Chris Noth for the show, then I will be certain he’s reading my mind.

Time to put on my tin foil hat again.
