Dragon*Con costume ideas?

I’ve been invited to Dragon*Con this year: it’s Labor Day weekend, so there’s still plenty of time. I’m at a bit of a loss as to what I might do for a costume. My best idea so far is to go as a TOS-era Klingon, since I can do that pretty much just with the costume, a touch of makeup, and a careful beard trimming.

I am not the least bit interested in costume contests. I just want to do as the Romans do.

Go as a Roman.
Bed sheet togas are cheap.

For class, make a faux laurel wreath out of plastic ivy, spray paint it gold, & make a phoney lightning bolt from foam sheets, likewise painted gold.
Ta-da! Zeus.

Walked right into that one, I guess.

hmm. Well klingon stuff is easy enough to simulate. Spray your “armor” with rust-oleum HAMMERED black, and silver. Hammered first, then immediately silver. it will give you a lovely battle worn pitted metal surface. See here For the finish done with brass instead of silver. Scrounge the good wills for cool women’s leather belts to use as strappings etc, and a pair of motorcycle boots will suffice. I’m a prop builder so feel free to pick my brain.

TOS-era Klingons didn’t wear the armor and other stuff that movie and later era Klingons did. It’s actually one of the reasons I want to go that way.

Here’s a couple.

ah nm then! Sorry!

I envy your enthusiasm. I’ve never had the guts to wear a costume to such events.

A shame really, since I have the perfect Horta physique.

Sandworm.

Have you seen me naked?

Came across this site recently:

If you need to do something complex, cosplay.com has a lot of talented costumers. Of course, there are a lot of 12 year olds who want to dress like NARUTO!1! as well, so when I need construction tips I tend to rely on the search function rather than browsing through.

For a simpler idea, a browncoat or Mal from Firefly wouldn’t be too difficult to create using thrift shop items and is fairly recognizable and comfortable.

Cool ideas, thanks.

Don’t you mean you want to do as the Romulans do? Anyway, I have the PERFECTcostume idea for you. I dare you to go as this.

Oh. Sweet. Heaven.

I would, too, that’s the sad part.

Because I know I could pull it off.

But no.

Well, I hear there’s some guy on the Internet who can show you how to make a Tron costume…

Here’s something that you should be able to knock up over a couple of weekends.
