In a recent thread I mentioned that I am experiencing a dramatic increase in my hair growth. My hair on top of my head would seldom exceed 1" in length before it broke off or fell out. This has been the case for over 4 decades. Currently my hair is about 3" long and for the first time in decades I can comb it back the way I like. In the previous thread I attributed the hair growth to less showering and washing my hair during the pandemic. It just occurred to me that their might be another possible cause, My girlfriend started hormone replacement therapy about the same time my hair started growing. Could there possibly be anything to this???
IANAD, but I don’t see how her HRT could possibly affect your hair growth unless she’s chewing the tablets while swapping spit with you every night.
But men produce estrogen, too, you know, and as I understand it, they produce more as they age. I don’t know if this would explain the hair growth or not. It’d be a good question to ask your doctor.
I’d think that if you have fragile hair and were shampooing but not using conditioner, that could have caused increased breakage, and not shampooing might have alleviated that. That’s not to say estrogen levels weren’t also a factor. Again, good question for an MD.
Never used shampoo always used the same soap I bathe with. That might be harsher than shampoo.
If you want to have a Google, I think “acute hirsutism” might be a suitable search term.
Hirsutism - Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic.
There are some possible causes of an acute condition listed here, but what strikes me from a quick perusal is that the condition is usually abnormal hair growth on face/neck/back, rather than just more hair growth on the head. So I don’t know if it fits the bill.
I don’t know what your girlfriend is using, but transdermal hormones can definitely transfer:
The top of my head is the only part of my body lacking in hair so I would never notice hair growth anywhere else.
She uses a patch that looks like a small Band-Aid
Before the patch she was using a vaginal insert
