Dresden public transit questions

  1. Is it acceptable to transfer between the S-Bahn and buses/trams (that is, within one hour of stamping and without buying another ticket?)
  2. Are tickets purchased at S-Bahn ticket machines valid on buses/trams and vice-versa?

I noticed the fare is the same. However, tickets purchased from a bus stop machine have “Zug”, “Tram”, and “BUS” logos while tickets purchased from a train ticket machine only have “Zug” and “Tram”.

I am thinking I at least can use the bus tickets everywhere but the train tickets only on S-Bahn and trams. This would imply, though, that if transferring is possible I can only do it in the bus to S-Bahn direction.

The zone tickets can be used on any of the DVB bus train tram and ferry services as you wish, using which ever ticket, just stick to the zones ( there are cushion areas at zone borders… you can go just over the border of a zone without that counting… hmm can u take advantage of the cushion at start AND finish ? )

A ferry use may pay for the cheaper ferry only ticket , OR pay for generic DVB ticket (1 use ,4 use, week, etc)

The exceptions are the special tourist services that DVB operate… the tour buses, or hillside railway. Buy a special ticket for them.

The answer to both of your questions is yes. Even though S-Bahn and buses and trams are operated by different companies (S-Bahn is Deutsche Bahn, i.e., Germany’s national rail company, whereas buses and trams are run by DVB, which is owned by the city council), the two cooperate within the framework of a transport association with mutual recognition of the tickets. That’s the usual set-up in German cities.
