I think what H Stern meant was that he can’t understand a crime with absolutely no motive… though I think those kids did have a motive (sort of) … Stern either didn’t understand it, or was right that their was no motive. So basically he could have said something about rape, or vengeance, or whatever. He just happened to say “rape” and It seems like “rape” is a more frightening word than “murder”, and in a way, I could see why.
Anyway… I don’t think he meant to sound so “crude” about it, and probably just didn’t catch what he was saying until after he said it. He probably pulled a random motive out of his ass (for an example) and tripped on his own words.
I’m no fan of H Stern, but that particular comment wouldn’t offend me… Because, I couldn’t even imagine Stern saying something like that with the intention of everyone perceiving in the way they did. I don’t think he would think that either… he probably just opened his mouth before thinking. BTW, doesn’t he have teenage daughters?
I just think Howard is pathetic. At least Tom Green doesn’t have Stern’s ego. Howard thinks he’s just the greatest thing since sliced peanut butter, and he’s really just some dork with a big mouth who thinks it’s funny to sit there and say stupid shit for shock value.
He is what Beavis and Butthead would be if they grew up, and were slightly more coherant.
Howard Stern is hardly the King of all Media. i stopped listening to his show years ago. His gimmick laden format ran outta gas a long time ago as far as i can tell. It was truly sad to witness his pathetic performance in his movie, trying oh so hard to play the role of an (in)experienced druggie crossed with a taste of Woody Allen, and some horribly mawkish 70ish college type “revolutionary” content thrown in for good measure. Just plain sucked the wheels off the wagon.
I know almost jack shit about Tom Green, but I’ve never had a problem with Howard.
What I’ve heard from Tom Green fans doesn’t do much service to the guy, but otherwise I have almost no opinion on him. I think if he ever pulled one of his stunts on me I’d laugh about it just so I could get next to him and then I’d punch the idiot in the face. And then I’d laugh at him.
I don’t know anything much about DB either, but anyone who jumps on Stern on these boards is, IMO, asking for it. We here at the SDMB are far, far more verbally abusive than Stern with a hangover. People here though attempt to hide behind political ideology to do it. Stern just says what he thinks. His radio show is a blend of the Pit and IMHO, and that’s what I liked about it. I realy felt like I was listening to his opinions. It was… comfortable. And he and I both laugh at farts. If I wanted to listen to “facts and figures” I’d turn on NPR. Give me something fun, I say, and Stern obliged gratefully. If I had tits to show he could see mine. I wouldn’t mind a rough ribbing from the guy, either. But then, I’m not Drew Barrymore. :shrug again:
That said, after a flurry of listening to Stern day in and day out for a few months I haven’t listened to him since. He isn’t quite a one-trick pony but even the three Stooges get old.
