Drew Barrymore trashes Stern

Look, I’m not looking to start a fight here, I’m open to any comments, that’s why I’m writing this. On (I think) Prime-time Thursday Drew Barrymore responded to comments Howard Stern made about celebrities (particularly her) who coward away from going to or staying in NYC. Barrymore was not pleased and commented that Howard Stern makes a living being mean to other people and how she can’t “comprehend” that. I don’t know what she said word for word, but I heard it twice.

The thing I can’t understand is why’s she:

a) so sensitive, when Howard Stern didn’t really say anything THAT bad about her.

b) so scared of NY in the first place. She ran off on Saturday Night Live, but came back supposedly because she had a contract of some sort. If SNL loses it’s host, SNL is pretty much screwed. I am aware that there was that NBC anthrax thing, but they wouldn’t do the show if she were in any real danger. Her new movie premiere in NY got canceled, but the LA premiere was a go. There were other cancellations as well (Late Show for one), whether these are linked to terrorist scares I’m not 100% on.

c) so quick to label Stern as a person who makes a living being “mean” to people. This is what I REALLY have a problem with! I mean… look at who she’s married to!? Tom Green made a living on being mean to other people. Green, (in my opinion), is worse since most of his pranks are about him being a physical annoyance where Stern just exercise his right to say whatever. Plus, Green picks on people off the street that he doesn’t even know, where Stern mostly picks on people who put themselves in the spotlight.

I don’t know… if I left anything out or gave any bad information tell me. I’m really not a fan of any of these people. Tom Green I hate, but I have (had) no beef with Barrymore or Stern. Comments?

This is all based off perception, as I obviously don’t personally know any of the involved parties.

To answer question “a”: I would assume she, like many others, are hypersensitive to issues surrounding NYC/WTC/Anthrax, etc and don’t appreciate a stupid fuck like Stern antagonizing the situation.

“b”: I would assume some of this is hyped up. I, personally, wouldn’t be afraid of it, but I’m sure that many people who were closer to the recent, traumatic events, might be more sensitive to that kind of thing.

“c”:
I tend to agree with Barrymore. I’ve always thought that Stern was a cruel, manipulative, egomaniacal bastard who only trashes other people because it makes his self-loathing character feel better. His jokes have always seemed mean-spirited to me and are always at someone else’s expense.

As to how this is different from Tom Green, I don’t see Tom’s humor as being intentionally mean to other people like Stern is. He is obnoxious, which is why a lot of people hate him (I think he’s hilarious), but I don’t thinks he’s spiteful, like Stern.

Anyway, that’s MHO.

I share your opinions on Green and Stern, Demo
I have an incredibly flexible moral tolerance whan it comes to humor but I find Stern occasionally inexcusable, including his public shot at fleeing celebrities from NYC and his incredibly insensitive comments about the Colombine shootings a couple years ago.

As for Drew Barrymore, I heard yesterday that she’s newly pregnant and was not fleeing for herself as much as for her baby.

I don’t think there are many other ways to phrase this, but this is still really funny to me and I don’t know why.

I would have to disagree. Tom Green has gotten in peoples faces for the sake of his “comedy”. I’m not a fan of Stern by any means, in fact I can’t stand him hearing him. I know a lot of people, however, who would rather be orally “assaulted” by Stern then most anything Tom Green does.

“Tom’s humor as being intentionally mean to other people like Stern is.”

I mean, isn’t it? Most of his bits revolve around him being mean and getting a reaction out of people. How can he not intentionally be mean playing a joke or prank that receives laughs depending on how pissed off the people get. He was on Dennis Miller showing people a picture of a person who was taking legal action against him, telling people his name and where he lives. I read that in the paper, supposedly he asked people to do something if the see the guy… I’m not sure.

I don’t know, I don’t care anymore. I have a BIG thing against Green because I think he’s an ass and gets cheap laughs. I should be happy with the people I know who agree with me, and allow others to think what they want.

Thanks for not getting aggressive about it. I respect you have a right to believe in whatever.

So the OP wasn’t really about Barrymore in the first place, was it?

Maybe in jealousy over who she ended up with?

I’m sorry, but I think the OP was right…
I hate Tom Green, HATE him!! =)
Compared to HStern, I would say he’s MUCH worse to some people, and some people can’t take HS verbal abuse. Some people just take one form of abuse better than the other.

I think the only difference betwen Tom Green and Howard Stern is that when Tom Green is being mean he wants to get people riled up until they’re just about to punch him, and Howard Stern only is mean when he know there is no risk of physical harm to his person, because they’re celebrities who have to maintain an image, or if they’re a hundred miles away.

If you ask me, that makes Tom Green the better man.

Howard Stern is putrid.

Tom Green is hilarious.

It’s all a matter of taste, obviously, but I think putting poop on a microphone and then asking people to talk into it is pretty funny. So is making someone who peed on someone’s fast food once eat a peed-on pickle. So is painting “PIMPMOBILE” on your dad’s car. He’s juvenile, granted, and I prefer George Carlin, but come on, he’s not that bad.

But Stern is just disgusting. I’ve never laughed at him, and I’ve seen a few of his shows thanks to my ex-roommate. “Nice tits…huh-huh…come sit on my lap…I have a little dick…huh-huh…how many times do you wipe after you shit…huh-huh.”

I don’t know why any self-respecting actress or model would show him her tits, unless she is truly untalented and has nothing more to offer.

As for Barrymore, she’s not my favorite actress or anything, but I wouldn’t necessarily want to hang around a possibly anthraz-infested studio when I’m expecting, either.

::sadly shakes head and crosses Nacho4Sara off “secret crush” list::

I am shocked. Shocked.

I like Drew.

Seriously, I don’t like Tom Green OR Howard Stern. But I don’t think that Green is as viscious, as nasty, as hateful as Stern. Like when he said the kids at Columbine should have tried to force girls to have sex with them before they killed everyone?

I don’t CARE if it’s just for shock value-that makes it even worse. Because it wears off after awhile, and what you have is a stupid, insecure bully throwing cheap shots at everyone because he can. He’s extremely selfish, insecure and hateful.
Tom Green, on the other hand, is merely annoying. Granted, he’s annoying in the EXTREME, but he’s not hateful.

Well, Tom Green puts on his cute face like he doesn’t know he’s enraging other people, but of course the whole bit depends on him being disrespectful. And really being “hateful” is just being disrespectful of something people aren’t presently so touchy about.

TG’s done worse than what you talked about. The pee on food thing and the whole “SLUTmobile” was done to people he knew and who CHOSE to be in his life. The poo thing isn’t that bad, unless he gets poo on the person.

However, I don’t like HS either. ESPECIALLY when he says derogatory homosexual references. The thing is… HS can say what he wants, it’s his right. TG is physically being an annoyance. Whether one act seems just as bad as another is not relevant. I think people have full coverage (for the most part… you can’t say threatening things) when it comes to speech, while physical acts LIKE THE ONES HE DOES to my knowledge, isn’t.

Watch this video.

IF you can’t, it’s basically Green and Barrymore being annoyed by someone on camera… they don’t take it well and get someone who works at the restaurant to keep the kid away from them. If people say “well they are at dinner” PLEASE DON’T! If you know Green, you’ll know that he can strike at anywhere. If you say "well Green did it for " please don't. He did cable access doing this shit, and even if was involved, it doesn’t make it any more right.

I think he’s just an idiot who got lucky! GRANTED… he MUST be pretty smart to work that shit. He also gave my aunt a hard time once… (trust me, I hated him before that)

his “jokes” are so cheap… anyone could jump up and down whith a friggin turkey on their head screaming.

I’m so tired, and I tried spellchecking this, and I’m a dyslexic fool who pecks at the keyboard.

oh, you have to copy and paste that link…

all of it, even the poop that’s not underlined

Oh, hey, I agree. I can’t STAND Tom Green-the one where he road around in the motorized cart in the supermarket, making a huge mess pissed me off because he’s obviously just being a stupid ass vandal and a prick.
However, I’ve never heard him weasel like Howard does, who takes cheap shots at the pain of others.

You need to actually listen to Stern rather than listen to what people are saying that he said. What Stern said was that he could not understand their motive of just randomly killing people. He could understand (but not necessarily agree with) a motive of rape. Shame on the media for twisting his words around and shame on you for twisting the media’s twist on his words. How can you dare to judge something when your facts are so convoluted?

To get back to the OP, I agree with Stern. This whole anthrax thing is getting ridiculously out of hand. Howard is absolutely right to criticize pretentious celebrities whose ignorance only helps to perpetuate the hysteria.

What? You think that’s any better? Same thing, as far as I’m concerned-saying, “Oh, I could understand them wanting to rape girls…” WTF?

Rape isn’t about sex. It’s about abuse.

Um? Yay for the PC police.

In your first paragraph, you contend that understanding why one person would rape another person is horrible.

In your second paragraph you explain why one person would want to rape another person.

Please make up your mind. Thank you.
