This figgy, chocolate, rum, almond, and walnut baklava with orange blossom honey syrup looks pretty durn good. I also like those fancy, homemade, chicken salads that one might serve on a croissant, so this Fig Chicken Saladappeals to me ( I might even be tempted to include some halved green grapes along with the figs, just because I like them)/
Personally, I think a decent handful would be a great addition to a coca cola, and/or coffee, and hot sauce red eye gravy deglazed and served over a salty, fried, Country/Virginia, Bone-in Hamsteak with fried eggs and biscuits for breakfast.
oh, and some grits…don’t forget the grits drizzled with the red eye gravy, too.
Not your Mama’s Ham and Red Eye Gravy
1 or 2 Large Smithfield or Country Ham steaks
2-3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon flour
1/2 cup of coca cola
1/2 cup of strong coffee
2-4 tablespoons of chopped dried figs
Several shakes of Louisiana brand Cayenne Sauce (around 2 tablespoons)
Fry the Hamsteaks with the butter in a skillet till heated through and slightly crispy with browned and crispy caramelization. Remove the Ham steak to plates with grits. Add the flour to the remaining drippings and butter, stirring to form a roux and cooking out a bit of the rawness of the flour. Add the coca cola and coffee and hot sauces to deglace stirring so as not to clump, add the figs and bring everything to a simmer. Simmer for around 5 minutes letting it reduce some and the figs to become soft and the flour to cook out. Serve over the Ham and grits. A dash of worcestershire is also acceptable.
