My local liquor store has started carrying this stuff called Joe, Mark and Robbo.
It doesn’t have any fancy packaging, and the label basically says, “we just mixed whisky together until we found something we like.”
The names are something like “The Smoky, Peaty One” (a blend of Islay malts), “The Sweet Smooth One” and the “Rich Spicy One”.
I’ve tried the Smoky Peaty, and it’s pretty good. Definitely has Islay character to it. But, it’s only $25 for 750ml and right now, you can’t find much in a single malt from Islay for under $40 or so (which is what 10 year old Laphroaig is. Don’t get me started on Lagavullin).
The Bowmore or the Bunnahbhain are still low 30’s, but I think I might prefer this Smoky, Peaty to them. Neither of them is really my cup of tea.
I do believe that they’re all blends.
Anway, if you’re as put off as I am at the crazy cost of whisky right now, it’s a highly quaffable option.
