The Mrs loves fruity vodka martinis (please don’t start on gin vs vodka :smack: ). She loves sweet and fruity. You know that pink punk from Fridays or a cosmo made with grape vodka? That’s what she loves.
She also love ginger and all the ginger martinis are citrus based. She despises citrus flavors. So how can I make a fruity/gingery vodka martini?
I don’t think the gin vs vodka is going to be the big issue here.
Assuming you’re doing something like vodka + ginger syrup + juice, instead of citrus, you could try something tropical for your juice, like pineapple or passionfruit. That should pair fine with ginger. Even peach juice I think would work.
Just this morning I found a recipe for strawberry-ginger jam. That sounds like a good combo. Make your pseudo-martini according to one of the recipes you found, only with strawberry instead of citrus. Or just thin the jam with a little water and some vodka.
1.5 oz. Absolut Pear vodka
.75 oz pear liqueur
.75 oz Sweet & Sour mix
.75 oz. simple syrup
splash (small) maraschino liqueur
Shake over ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a cherry.
To “gingerize” it, toss in a half teaspoon of freshly grated ginger before shaking. Strain through a small seive to catch the root bits from muddling up your presentation.
