What, like trees that grow in the middle of the street?
I have seen those, on medians or islands, and they do generally work to calm traffic, by (at least visually) tightening the lanes for traffic to either side.
But “street trees” normally means the regularly-spaced plantings in the public right-of-way along each side of the street, between the sidewalk and the parked vehicles (where those are present). In some cities, residents can apply to have these planted on their block at no cost, if the city is not already doing it as a matter of course. I have also heard of people applying for permission to do it at their own expense. Traffic calming is just one of myriad benefits that urban and suburban street trees offer; search “benefits of street trees,” or similar terms, for various treatises.
Dear OP,
Not everything is about your feelings.
Signed,
A helpful person.
We have one on our street, and I appreciate it. I’m on a dead-end street that backs up to a school. It’s filled with kids, and there is no reason to be speeding through it.
There are some utterly awful people in this thread. I mean, in real life you’re probably OK, but for some reason on the internet bragging about how much you hate children is thought to be clever. Slow down, you selfish buggers, your free muffin isn’t going anywhere.
No, but it’s getting cold.
No, it’s not a divided street, and it’s wide enough such that a lane of traffic can zoom by at speed past parked cars.
And the texturing makes sense, but if the city doesn’t have the money to put in road humps, they surely don’t have the money to tear out perfectly good, if 45 year old concrete pavement and replace it with textured pavement.
I didn’t notice any post praising speeding or hating on children. I noticed a lot of threads - having posted one myself - complaining about entitled or oblivious adults.

Thanks for your help.
I’ve heard more than one city cop comment about neighborhoods demanding increased traffic enforcement and when the cops comply they end up ticketing… everybody who lives in that neighborhood. Apparently it’s an issue of speeding is okay for me but not anybody else. :smack:
In my neighborhood the big violators are the trash trucks. They always zoom through at 30 - 35mph and don’t even pretend to stop at the stop signs.
I beg your pardon – I saw it again and it is “Live”. That’s a relief.
When I see that sign I feel like pulling over, knocking on their door and saying, "What are my kids doing here? They live with me!"
