I think what people are missing is that the Mr. Rogers thread was the beginning of drmark2000’s The One. Using Babel Fish, I translated his OP into German and back into English. Why German? Two reason. First, his username contains mark, obviously a reference to the currency. Second, his claim to be a clinical psychologist ties him in some way to Freud. Here’s what I came up with:

I’m sorry I missed that whole Mr. Rodgers thread. I knew the man (we lived in the same, well, neighborhood for awhile when I was younger), and would have had quite a lot of vitriol for the OP. But that’s exactly what the jackass was looking for, wasn’t it?
catsix just a question, because I’m apparently missing something here: if you are really so disappointed with the quality of this place, why do you pay to stick around? You say you’ve seen it through from free to pay, and as I read your post, you’ve seen nothing good in both versions. Is it really worth it to you to pay money to be continually pissed off?

Being disappointed in a staff that has a history of making promises they don’t keep is hardly the same as seeing ‘nothing good in both versions’.
Certain things here are worth the admission price. If they weren’t, I wouldn’t pay it.
I don’t think that’s in any way inconsistent with pointing out that certain other things are disappointing, such as a history of staff promises regarding new goodies and then a later denial that any such promises were ever made.
There’s nothing wrong in trying to make something better, is there?
If what **catsix ** is saying has been true in the past, then it is fair for her to bring it up. I can’t prove or Disprove her claims, I haven’t been around long enough. I like the board fine without promised improvements {though less time outs would be welcomed}.
**catsix ** shouldn’t be challenged just for challenging TubaDiva, she should be challenged if what she said, doesn’t have merit.
So Come on Charter Members and 99’ers, is **catsix ** basically right or is she wrong on her points?

We’ve actually had quite a few things over the years. We started out with a very puny server that has been upgraded and then replaced, that’s happened several times. That growth has always outpaced the server (even with big upgrades), a measure perhaps of our success that we’ve not been able to stay ahead of demand.
We’ve gone from software that was totally inadequate for our needs to something that works nominally better . . . and that we hope is even more effective in the future.
We’ve told the membership of these things as they happened . . .and they did happen. Not always as swiftly as we might have liked, but all has come to pass.
We haven’t had an upgrade since then either, at the very least, we’ve been hobbling along on what we have.
Paying got us survival; we’re still here. We never said it would be otherwise. To say so is at the least a misconception on your part . . . and perhaps even a deliberate lie, but let’s give you the benefit of the doubt here.

Read a little slower there, Miller, it makes for more effective cheerleading. See where the word “possibly” is in that sentence? That means that the components of list aren’t promised but the entire sentence implies that some sort of “cool new stuff” is coming. In fact Ed’s announcement is very similar to Tuba’s promise of secret goodies to come that catsix called her on.
Now, why don’t you STFU and let Tuba do her own offended squirming. That’s what she gets the modest stipend for.

I would say that one would have to have a rather convulted interpretation of " Other cool stuff that we throw in later" to claim that 'paying got us survival; we’re still here. My half recollection was that, ‘yea, they said we’d get to post, have charter member, search, have post counts show, but did promise “other stuff down the road”’ but didn’t feel like searching.

It seems clear to me from the linked thread that yes, unequivocably, yes, “other stuff” was in fact promised two years ago. hasn’t happened. So, it was not a ‘misconception’ on her part, nor a deliberate lie. Tuba may have forgotten that thread, but it certainly was there.
And, since that post, have there been absolutely no changes to the feature list of the SDMB? There’s that quick reply window that’s been added, although I don’t think I’ve ever used it, myself. I don’t know if that counts as “cool,” but then, I don’t really see the need for any of the promised features. Apparently, you and catsix are all broken up about not having a calendar. Here’s a tip, though: there’s one built right into your operating system!
But hey, let’s get down to brass tacks, here. You and catsix aren’t half as interested in “cool new features” as you are at the opportunity to bitch and whine about some facet of the boards, no matter how inconsequential and picayune. Presonally, I don’t really get it. Paying fifteen bucks a year to squall like a five year seems like a poor use of financial resources, but if that’s what you need to get your rocks off, more power to you, I guess.

Seems like a reasonably apt description to me. catsix mentioned multiple times “new stuff” has been promised. CarnalK rolls up with a post in which 90% of the offered stuff was delivered, and a few maybes that never came to fruition, and thinks this is some sort of validation of catsix’s usual bleating. I’m personally willing to accept that catsix simply doesn’t know what the fuck she was talking about, but I can’t blame Tuba for coming to a different conclusion.
I thought the Quick reply was down there before P2P, though I know they just changed how to activate it. It is pretty hard to call “cool” now that you ask.
I’m not squalling about anything. I just pointed out a spot where catsix could have formed her impression of a promise. I also said I agree that it looks like shit was promised. Simple as that. Which is why I pointed out what I did. I have heard a very similar statement before, and nothing came of it.
We have certainly had our very heated arguments in the past.
I would like you to know that I hold nothing against you and actually like you just fine.
And if she forgot, she forgot, but that’s no reason to say that I’m deliberately lying or veiling a threat by saying she’ll ‘try to overlook’ the things she’d like to promise me for my ‘nasty ways.’ Sounds to me like my head’s on the chopping block for pointing this out.
