(Old) Drudgery In The MMP

Yesterday’s local Deocratic Party caucus went pretty well, but it was busy! I sat down at 2:30 and started checking people in, and didn’t get up again until the polls closed at 7:00. Luckily it stayed cool where I was sitting, even though I was right by the doors. There were two moments when no one was in line, but they didn’t last longer than a few minutes: I would start thinking “maybe I can go to the restroom/grab my Gatorade…” and the next wave of voters would arrive. Counting ballots at the end of the night didn’t take as long as I feared it might, and I was home before 9:30. It wound up being a 7-hour day: not bad at all compared to working a 16-hour county election day, but quite tiring in its way because I was “on” for 4.5 hours straight (traffic at county elections is never that steady for that long). My location had just over 1,000 ballots cast, and 70% of them were for one candidate – there were ten running – so it was no shock to see the news this morning that he had won the party’s nomination for September’s special election. I will not be volunteering for that one; next up for me will be the county’s general election in November (back to “normal”).

I slept fine, but am more tired today than I thought I’d be. I actually have to work a little: there’s a proposal tagup at 10am, and I have some writing to do. I’m hoping that part won’t take long. I have laundry to do at some point, and a grocery store trip, and the dog groomer is coming sometime between 3-6pm. Whenever Bailey has a significant accident in her bed I clean her hindquarters as best I can, but there’s always some lingering dried poop that I just can’t get: that’s when I call the groomers, and the poor unsuspecting doggy gets a bath. If I keep feeling this way I’d love to try to take a nap before the groomer arrives, but we’ll see.

I hope you’re feeling much better already! :people_hugging:

Yay! The first thing I always do when traveling is unpack and get my hotel room all set up: then I feel ready to tackle the trip.

“One size fits all” is always a lie! :joy:

That was the “or treats” part of “she still won’t eat any regular dog food or treats” in the post you quoted. Trust me: after 16 years of dog ownership I definitely know about those methods! This dog simply will not be tricked that way – she’ll eat around even tiny pills and spit them out every time – so for most of her life I’ve crushed her meds and mixed them in her wet food. But earlier this year I suddenly started having luck with Pill Pockets: I used them for her meds in the morning, and gave her empty ones as treats whenever we’d come inside. However, for the past 1-2 weeks she hasn’t touched any Pill Pocket (of any flavor), even when empty. And she won’t eat more than a bite or two of any dog food, wet or dry (again, any flavor/brand), so I can’t do the ol’ crush/mix thing. I even tried crushing/mixing in straight peanut butter, and she’s not interested. I think she’s caught in a pain/not eating cycle after having some tummy issues; I’m really hoping the vet can help break it on Tuesday. :crossed_fingers: Right now the only thing she will eat is roasted chicken, and I’ve been providing that as much as possible (while offering dog food from time to time). But I know she can’t live on chicken alone, and she definitely can’t continue not getting her meds. I’m afraid this old girl simply can’t handle the current state of things for much longer. :frowning:

(Ugh, sorry about the ramble: I’ve been trying to hide it but I’m actually kind of super worried at the moment.)

Indeed! I don’t think I would have been able to go back to sleep for quite a while.

That was close!!!
