Drug Users and SUV drivers: Do you not know or Do you not care?

As background, my wife and I try quite hard to be responsible consumers. We didn’t purchase “Ben and Jerry’s” ice cream because their founder supported convicted killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. We never ordered from Domino’s, because it’s owner, Tom Monaghan, gave considerable financial support to Operation Rescue. (And before some smartass comes along, yes, I am fully aware that both companies are no longer owned by these people). We avoid purchasing goods “Made in China”, both to support American workers and because of China’s poor human rights record and actions in Tibet. We would never buy something with real fur. And I’ve recently started to avoid Gap and Old Navy because the owners, the Fisher family, are doing clear cutting of forests in California. We always attempt to purchase Organic goods from small, family owned farms.

We do these things because, in our current world, one of the largest votes you can make is with your pocketbook. These companies don’t give a shit about my personal politics and viewpoints, they only care about me as a consumer. So that’s how I register my disapproval with their policies, I don’t buy their products. And I urge others to also.

The basis for our attempt at responsible consumerism is the fact that actions have consequences, both intended and not. To live a good life, and to be a good person, I try to increase the positive consequences and decrease the negative consequences of my actions. It seems like a good way to live my life.

Now, to the rant:

Drug Users:

Listen you brain-addled, self-righteous, delusional idiots: Your money supports an underground economy that is responsible for thousands of murders, beatings, and other violent crimes here in the United States and around the world. How hard is it really for you to understand the $20 you just spent for your LSD helps subsidize the murder of an undercover police officer? The dime bag you just brought was brought to you by a tyrannical egomaniac who doesn’t think twice about having judges in Columbia killed. These are the actions you are supporting when you buy your drugs.

I know you all get a fucking hard-on making fun of the latest round of Anti-Drug public service ads, but, in those commercials behind the politics and idiocy, is the point that you should consider: Your money supports Very Bad Things. Do you not know, or do you just not care? Is your fucking 3 hour high is worth the death of some young kid who died to keep his gang’s drug turf?

And before you start to spew some shit about legalizing would get rid of all these problems, I DON’T CARE. Regardless of whether or not you support legalization, the fact remains the pot you’re buying IS illegal, and your money IS supporting bad things. Once it is legal, go ahead, smoke all you want, but get rid of the fucking “It’s not my fault, it’s the War on Drugs!” bullshit and find another rationalization.

One final note: I know that not all of you buy your weed/LSD/ X from St. Joan who grows it organically without pesticides while singing Kumbaya and donating part of the drug revenue to charity, so I’ll take the first two people who are sure their money doesn’t really go into the system, and give them a pass and fuck the rest of you.

SUV drivers:

If you skipped the Drug Users part because you don’t use, many of the same arguments go for you. By driving your monster SUV, you are ignoring the negative consequences of your actions in favor for having a status vehicle that makes you feel safer, even though you aren’t. Do you not understand that your vehicle causes more pollution and smog, causes more fatalities on the road, and increases our countries reliance on oil? Or do you understand that, and just figure your comfort/convenience/bigger dick outweighs all that?

I know you all ALSO get a fucking hard-on making fun of the latest round of Anti-SUV ads, but, in those commercials, behind the politics and idiocy, is the point that you should consider: Your money supports Very Bad Things. The lower gas milage your vehicle gets causes more consumption of gasoline, which increases our dependence on foreign oil. Do you not know, or do you just not care?

One final note: I know that not all of you only own SUV’s because you need them for all that off-roading you do and you only buy your gas made from good old American petroleum, so the first two posters again get a pass, and fuck the rest of you. As an additional not, this part also goes for the idiot driving a ‘86 Toyota Camry with a broken catalytic converter that pollutes, and the owner of the ‘90 Cadillac that gets 14 miles per gallon too, so don’t pull that bullshit argument out here either.

So, although I’ve now alienated the entirety of the SDMB, I had to get that off my chest. Since most of us here are smart, I’ll answer myself that you just don’t care. And to those who just don’t care, a hearty Rot in Hell to you.

Hamlet The United Federation of Planets will be safe in your hands.

Shouldn’t your rant about the underground drug economy be aimed at the politicians who created the whole “war on drug” situation?

My guess would be that if heavy drug users don’t care what they’re doing to their own health, their lives and the lives of the people around them, they certainly aren’t going to give a rip about the life of somebody in Columbia…

… and I thought people bought SUV’s because they had small dicks…

I just drove to work in the first real snowfall of the season. Drove my Volvo station wagon. Had no trouble getting it out of the driveway or driving the five blocks to plowed roads, in spite of not having four-wheel drive. Saw somebody trying to stop a little late (remember, first snowfall of the season) in an Expedition, and wondered if they were going to go through the intersection sideways… thought to myself, “How’s that 4WD helping you now?”

That’s all I have to say about that.

See what I mean when I used the term “brain-addled?” Gary, read the ENTIRE post, especially the part where, oh I don’t know, I mentioned the legalization argument.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I need my Expedition to carry my 2 tons of grass. A Prius just isn’t big enough.

[sub]That was completely tongue-in-cheek, by the way. Can you imagine the trouble I’d get into if I were serious?[/sub]

They’re dicks get bigger after they buy their SUV, and as they drive them. In bed, it’s still the same [cough] little [cough] problem.
[sub]Note, this is a joke. I’m sure you SUV drivers all have huge penisi, except the women. Their husbands are the ones who are well hung.[/sub]

Wow, thanks for that intellgent response. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Oh sure, Airman, right after I blast you, you actually show a sense of humor. You bastard!!!

Thanks for the lecture, Ralph.

Yeah, kudos, Airman, that was very good.

You know what I like to do? Wait till someone in a little car is stuck in a snowdrift or spinning out on glare ice. Then I pull up next to them in my 4x4 and ask, “What kind of gas mileage are you getting now?”

:wally

::listing things I need to do to get fucked::

buy SUV

Do Drugs
anything else???

A very intelligent post. Very thought provoking and earth shattering. But there’s just one thing. You pick the battles to fight that you wish, you don’t do without anything to be self-righteous. How about just parking that vehicle you drive, especially when on your outing to buy your organic veggies, because we all know ANY foreign matter introduced into the atmosphere causes problems. How about that electricity of yours? Cut it off. Use a wood stove and kerosene lamps to light your house and cook with. Think about all those nuclear power plants and coal-fire plants that are destroying the atmosphere. Let’s get rid of those suckers too. And hey, how about that water you drink? Sure eat those organic veggies while you drink water with enough chemicals in it to kill any kind of bacteria, but wait, you drink spring water don’t ya? What do you think’s been in those springs? Yea, right, they purify it.
Drug users are bad, wonder where that started? SUVs, well I drive one. Bet I get better gas mileage than you. Four cylinder, RAV4, Toyota, not even American made, but it’s got 112,000 miles on it, runs like a charm, wonder when Americans lost pride in their work and build pieces of junk now that no one wants half the time.
Nice post, but you need to get in front of that finger you are pointing just like the rest of us. Hypocrites never stand alone.

Well, some kind of body part enlargement, I guess.

I’ll bite.

I don’t care.

At least, I think I don’t care. All the fumes from my bong and my SUV tend to make things a bit hazy for me, but I find the SUV is quite a comfortable place to live now that I’ve been evicted.

What were we talking about again?

Sheesh, the other SUV hating thread is already 7 pages and going strong, why don’t you just continue that one.

'cause that one’s about SUV drivers being bad drivers, whereas this on is about SUV drivers being bad people.

And in honor of it, I’ll go home and start up my old Mustang. Horrendous gas mileage and almost no pollution controls. Add in the old carburetor that I can never get tuned just right and I bet we can already imagine the fumes of not-completely burned gas. Wow, those were the days.

Buy me a beer and ask my wife.

ultress, sure I pick my battles, so the fuck what. The fact there are always ways to be a better consumer doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t start somewhere. So I started with drug users, because their money money supports the worst of the worst, murders, beatings, creating fear in entire neighborhoods. Like I said, VERY bad things. And SUVs are a really easy target, because they are everywhere and, for the life of me, I don’t see them used at all for how they “should be.” If your SUV gets great gas mileage, doesn’t pollute as much, and isn’t a bigger risk to all the other drivers out there, hey, go crazy. I’ll send you a gold star, so you can wear it on your lapel.

Now, if I owned an SUV and did drugs, then you could call me a hypocrite, until then, maybe you shouldn’t.

Well, I guess that I would have to say that I am pretty sure that you mean well but that I find your politics rather screwy.
