drunk driver injures 7 on the sidewalk

Sorry, I don’t have a cite for you, apparently it’s too much of local news to make any big google-able headlines. Anyway, while I was shopping last saturday I heard an announcement on the tram that the lines 701, 711 and 715 had to switch to an alternate route, because there had been a big traffic accident on the Nordstrasse.
My first thought was: WTF? You see, theoretically you could drive 50 km/h (~ 30 mph) there, but that particular street is so narrow, has got bad pavement and is overall considered a relatively slow area so that mostly people are driving as fast as pedestrians would walk. How on earth could there be an accident, not to mention a big one???

Later on, I drove to a friend of mine and heard the news on the radio. Apparently some guy who owned a café, which was struggling, took his sports car and drove over the sidewalk and demolished the competition’s café. The guy was drunk and injured 7 people, among them a child.

What kind of asshole do you have to be to do such a thing? I really hope that they don’t allow him to get away with the excuse of “being drunk”, this reeks too much of calculated crime. I mean, what’s next? Gunning down people, so that they know where to drink their coffee? I am so annoyed about this, stupid BS like this always happens in my city :frowning:

Where are youOptihut - depending on the location the drinking and driving could be a more serious crime than the “Driving with Undo Care and Attention” or whatever it is they call driving like a moron in your neck of the woods.

As to what kind of asshole - a BIG, BIG asshole. I hope the people are ok.

This happened in Düsseldorf, Germany. The guy has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, since he apparently planned this.

What an idiot …

Ah, monday morning and already my button has been pushed.

Someone needs to beat this guy. A lot.

Couldn’t he just use a can of paraffin and a box of matches like anyone else?
